A Stakeholder’s Forum on Hunger Mitigation” was held on 23 July 2013 at the Bayview Hotel in Manila as part of the Nutrition Month celebration in the Calabarzon region. The event was attended by local nutrition program implementers to include : the Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers (P/CNAOs), District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs), Officers of the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars in Region IV-A (FBNS IV-A Inc.), Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG) on Nutrition from various line agencies and Calabarzon local media group –Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A (CNN-4A).
The Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Framework presented by Ms. Loida Y. Sevilla of Plan International Philippines was the highlight of the forum. This was followed by the expression of statement of support by the various stakeholders to support the SUN Movement, with the other participants also signing in the SUN Movement Pledge board.
Scaling Up Nutrition, or SUN, is a unique Movement founded on the principle that all people have a right to food and good nutrition. It unites people—from governments, civil society, the United Nations, donors, businesses and researchers—in a collective effort to improve nutrition.
Various lectures were also given relative to the theme of the 2013 Nutrition Month Celebration:
1) “Gutom at malnutrisyon, sama-sama nating wakasan!” by NO III Jellie Anne C. Palencia;
2) “Nutrition Security and Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) and Care Practice: Nutrition-specific interventions to address Hunger and Undernutrition” by Dr. Martin Parreno, Nutrition Coordinator of ACF International;
3) “Leveraging Nutritional Contributions” by Ms. Emilita Monville Oro, Philippine Country Program Director of IIRR;
4) “Homestead Food Production: A Food-Based Intervention Towards Achieving Food Security” by Ms. Fatima Dolly R. Reario, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, HKI;
5) Ensuring Food Security Through the “2013 National Year of Rice” by Ms. Gloria G. Arenillo, Program manager of National Food Authority (NFA) IV-A and;
6) “Status of Breastfeeding Initiatives Calabarzon Region” by Ms. Jennifer T. Añata, DOH-CHD IV-A.
