Lactation Rooms in Antipolo City Hall are finally open for public. One of the rooms is found at the City Hall's ground floor in front of the Accounting Office and the other one is located at the Gender and Development (GAD) Center.
Mayor Danilo Leyble and the city councilors were very happy to announce recently that the city goverment finally established rooms exclusively for breastfeeding mothers. According to City Councilor Alexander Marquez, Chairman on Committee on Health, the city officials supported this kind of project because they wanted to provide a comfortable place for mothers to express their breastmilk or breastfeed their babies while they are doing business transaction in the city hall. The mayor approved the budget to construct the lactation rooms immediately without hesitation.
The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS's) and the Barangay Health Workers (BHW's) are reponsible for the maintenance of the lactation rooms as per city order.
According to City Nutrition Action Officer Epiphany Villones, the lactation rooms will be a big help especially to those mothers who usually bring their child with them while transacting important matters in the city hall. CNAO Villones also mentioned that other establishments in the city are also planning to build lactation rooms to support the City Nutirition Office's campaign on the promotion of RA 10028 or the Expanded Breastfeeding Act. The Soroptomist International (non-government organization) of Antipolo City will donate 2 units of refrigerator in the city lactation rooms to be used as storage of expressed breastmilk of lactating mothers to assure that their babies will be fed only by breastmilk, most importantly those from 0-6 month old infants.
