calamba pgnAfter the simultaneous PGN trainings for the city/municipal implementers done by the NNC regional office during the last quarter of 2012, CNAO Aleli Catalina Y. Jimenez conducted the first batch of PGN barangay training roll-out in Calamba City.

The training was held last 7-11 January 2013 at the Conference Room of the City Nutrition Building of Calamba. A total of 26 participants composed of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Midwives, Barangay Councilors on Health and a BCPC Coordinator attended the training. Facilitators include Regional IYCF Coordinator from DOH-CHD IV-A, Dr. Gloria A. Narvaez; N.O. II Ms. Lourdes B. Bulante from NNC-CALABARZON and CNAO Jimenez. The group had their hospital practicum at the J. P. Rizal District Hospital and community practicum at Barangay Pansol.


RNPC Carina Z. Santiago awarded the certificates of completion to the participants and mentioned to extend her deepest thanks to their Barangay Chairmen for allowing them to participate in the 5-day training. She also informed them of the revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. She then reiterated the importance of organizing a functional community support group once they go back to their respective areas. RNPC Santiago urged them to continue to be pro-active in disseminating good nutrition.
Moreover, to complete the batches of trainings for the 1st 25% of barangays in the city, another batch of PGN training is currently being held (January 14-18, 2013) at the same venue with 31 participants from 11 barangays.
With these trainings, NNC hopes that families and individuals at the community level will be able to practice good nutrition with the help of our newly trained volunteer workers and through the implementation of Pabasa Sa Nutrisyon, Infant and young child feeding counseling and promotion of egg and vegetable syllabus.
