awardingIn order to recognize the local government units and individuals in CALABARZON and MIMAROPA regions who had exemplary performances in the field of nutrition for the past year, the Joint Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony for CALABARZON and MIMAROPA was held at La Breza Tower Suites, Quezon City last December 2, 2011.

Awards, banners and certificates were given to the finalist and the winners of the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS), Best Barangay Nutrition Scholar Performer and Best Local Government Unit Performer at the city and provincial levels in the two regions.

Special citations were also given to the cities of Sta. Rosa and Pagsanjan in Laguna for maintaining the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award in their first year. The two cities will be qualified for the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA) if they retain a 95% final score two years in a row. Sta. Rosa and Pagsanjan cities were also awarded with plaque of recognition during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony last 25 October 2012 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) headed by their chairpersons Ms. Gualberta C. Florendo, Chairperson, RNET IV-A; and Ms. Minda B. Tuburan, Chairperson, RNET IV-B were also recognized and awarded with certificates of appreciation.

In behalf of all the winners, Mayor Jose F. Medoza of Atimonan, Quezon; Gov. Carmencita O. Reyes of Marinduque; and BNS Irenea C. Villanueva of Tagaytay City gave their short messages.

The program was also attended by Dr. Juanito D. Taleon, Regional Sub-Committee in Nutrition-Sectoral Committee on Social Development (RSCN-SCSD) for Region IV-A and Regional Director of the Center for Health Development (CHD) for Region IV-A; Dr. Faith Alberto, Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) for Region IV-B representative and Assistant Regional Director of the Center for Health Development (CHD) for Region IV-B; representatives from the RSCN-SCSD and RNC member agencies; members of the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) of CALABARZON and MIMAROPA, local chief executives of the two regions; Provincial/City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers; City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Ms. Alicia C. Ramos, former Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator.

Ms. Precilla Escalante, Regional Nutritionist-Dietitian of CALABARZON and Ms. Sofia Anne C. Santos, Social Welfare Officer II of MIMAROPA were also present in the event who discussed updates on Supplementary Feeding Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development before the awarding ceremony started. Director Taleon, also presented the overview of the Kalusugan Pangakalahatan and Community Health Team Mobilization.

The ceremony was concluded by a challenge from Ms. Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of Region IV to excel for more and higher awards in the succeeding years.
