With the aim of guiding and mentoring target LGUs for capacity-building on nutrition program management, NNC Calabarzon conducted a 2-day orientation for the 2022 Regional Nutrition Shepherding Team (RNST) last October 17 and 18 at the St. Giles Hotel, Makati City.
One of the major agreements, is the drafting and issuance of a memorandum by the DILG IV-A directing the attendance of key persons of the Local Nutrition Committees (LNCs) of Rizal and Bacoor to attend the RNST dialogue with the LCEs.
The memorandum will ensure that the shepherding project will be known and participated in by the members of the LNCs who will be mentored for better and improved nutrition program implementation.
The participants, led by NNC IV-A Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Carina Z. Santiago, were: Ms. Shayne Mercado, DILG IV-A; Ms. Merjurie Miparanum and Ms. Jelennie Olaño (DSWD IV-A); and Engr. Emilma Pello (Tagaytay City CNAO); and Ms. Mayet Dogelio and Ms. Marilyn Seña (CNPC). They actively took part in the training sessions and workshops on integrating nutrition at the local level.
The topics discussed during the first day included:The Mobilization of Local Government Units for Scaled Up Nutrition Actions, Key Features of the Nutrition Shepherding Project, Prioritizing Nutrition and Local Development Planning, Investment Programming and Budgeting, and Strengthening Nutrition Programs through Mandanas-Garcia Supreme Court Ruling and EO 138-Full Devolution. The team also had a case study analysis activity to simulate the shepherding process.
For the second day, the RNST participants learned about influencing leadership in local government and effecting learning through shepherding. They became aware of the best practices of our high-performing LGUs who actively and generously shared their experiences during the open forum.
Plans of the shepherding team were identified and finalized during the workshop. They are set to meet the two identified priority LGUs namely the province of Rizal and the City of Bacoor for shepherding this November.
