NNC Inaugurates 2nd Nutriskwela Community Radio Station in MIMAROPABansud, Oriental Mindoro – the National Nutrition Council (NNC), MQ Mediazone Production, Polytechnic of the Philippines, Bansud Campus, Oriental Mindoro and the municipality of Bansud, Oriental Mindoro inaugurated the 2nd Nutriskwela Community Radio Station in MIMAROPA – Radyo Kaunlaran Bansud– DZNI 99.7 Mhz on 28 February at the Covered Court, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro. Radyo Kaunlaran joins Radyo Kasimanwa Coron 97.3 Mhz in conquering the airwaves in its quest to empower community through the dissemination of correct/accurate and up-to-date health and nutrition information in the MIMAROPA Region.

Gracing the event were Mr. Francisco Flores of MQ Mediazone Production, OIC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen B. Blanco of NNC-MIMAROPA, PUP President Emmanuel de Guzman, Ph.D, Mayor Ronaldo Morada, and PNAO Norine Dacula. In his message, Honorable Morada thanked the National Nutrition Council for choosing the municipality of Bansud as one of the recipients of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program and committed his unwavering support for the Radio Station.
A 3-day hands-on training was conducted by NNC and MQ Mediazone Production to the five core staff: the manager, technician, program manager, announcer and writer and members of the Community Radio Council.
Highlighting the event was the turn-over of the NTC Permit to operate and the Memorandum of Agreement to the station.

ro4b 2013 rdc 4b budget consultation fy 2014Vencio’s Hotel, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – OIC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen B. Blanco presented NNC MIMAROPA’s budget proposal for FY 2014 to the Regional Development Council of MIMAROPA last 27 February 2013.

The RDC-MIMAROPA conducted the Budget Consultation for FY 2014. The activity was attended by Directors and representatives of different regional line agencies (RLAs), Private Sector Representatives (PSRs), and Planning Officers of the 5 provinces and 2 cities of the region. Priority programs, projects and budgetary requirements for FY 2014 were presented by each agency for endorsement by the RDC. The activity is done annually to ensure transparency, accountability and implementation of national government and local government units (LGUs) programs

NNC MIMAROPA Conducts AHMP-PGN FeedbackingSablayan, Occidental Mindoro - Incoordination with the Provincial Nutrition Office of Occidental Mindoro, NNC MIMAROPA conducted Accelerated Hunger-Mitigation Program –Promote Good Nutrition(AHMP-PGN) Feedbacking last 21 November 2012. The Feedbacking was held to determine the level of implementation of AHMP-PGN in Occidental Mindoro. Specifically, the feedbacking aimed to: a) share and identify good practices, facilitating and deterring factors in program implementation; b) review breastfeeding support groups and clarify concepts on PGN; and c) reinforce Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling and practical skills.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) Arceli T. Rebong, District Nutrition Program Coordinators (DNPCs), Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), Mother Leaders, and other health workers who were trained on IYCF actively participated in the workshops.

In the end, the feedbacking provided learning to the participants. The participants then assured NNC to translate these learning into concrete actions for the improvement of the implementation of AHMP-PGN.

CGS Training and PGN Monitoring in MarinduqueBoac, Marinduque – The National Nutrition Council Mimaropa starts the year with the conduct of One-Day WHO CGS Training last 16 January 2013. It was participated by PNAO Robie Sosa, 5 District Nutrition Program Coordinators (DNPCs), 6 Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOS), and 2 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs). Participants were oriented on the use of length/height board and how to properly fill-up the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Card. Ms. Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, OIC-RNPC; and Mr.Frederich Christian S. Tan, NO III of NNC Mimaropa, facilitated the said training.CGS Training and PGN Monitoring in Marinduque

It was also an opportunity to conduct PromoteGood Nutrition (PGN) Monitoring, 17 January 2013, in barangay Timbo & Bagtingon of Municipality of Gasan, and barangay Masiga & Bognuyan of Municipality of Buenavista

NNC IV-B Completes the Conduct of One-Day WHO-CGS Trainings in MIMAROPAThe National Nutrition Council-MIMAROPA Region conducted “One-Day WHO Child Growth Standards trainings” in 7 municipalities of MIMAROPA included in the top 100 municipalities with highest Malnutrition Prevalence Rate (MPR) in the Philippines, based on 2011 Operation Timbang Results. The MPR and position of the municipalities in MIMAROPA are listed below.

The training was intended for participants to be equipped with the following skills:

1.Use of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Card

2.Recognizing the signs of severe acute malnutrition characterized by marasmus and kwashiorkor

3.Measuring and recording the child’s weight and length or height

4.Understanding the three different growth indicators

5.Interpreting the growth pattern of the child

6.Counselling mothers on growth monitoring and feeding using the prescribed job aid

The said trainings were attended by health workers (Nurses, Midwives, BNSs, and BHWs). Ms Eileen B. Blanco, OIC-RNPC and Mr. Frederich Christian S. Tan, NO III of NNC–MIMAROPA Region; and Provincial Nutrition Action Officers (PNAOs) and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) from respective localities, provided the technical assistance to the seven municipalities included in the top 100 with highest MPR in the year 2011. Given emphasis on the trainings were on how to accurately compute age in months, and accurately measure height/length and weight.

Nutrition Forum in PalawanA forum entitled “Nutrition Forum in Palawan” was conducted last December 4, 2012 that aims to update the local government units (LGUs) on the present situation of 0-5 years old preschool and 6-10 years old school children in Palawan.

It was participated by Assistant Regional Director Faith Alberto MD and Ms. Perla Supnet of Center for Health Development-MIMAROPA, Dr. Eduardo Cruz (Provincial Health Officer); Dr. Maria Vina Crisostomo (Medical Specialist II); Ms. Rachel Paladan (Provincial Nutrition Action Officer) and nutrition staff of the Provincial Health Office of Palawan; members of the Provincial Technical Working Group; representatives from DepEd – Palawan and DILG – Palawan; Municipal Health Officers (MHOs); Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs); Barangay Environment, Agriculture and Nutrition Scholar (BEANS) Presidents; ABC Presidents; Provincial Information Officer and PROMO Nutri Com Secretary Daisy Ann Atrero and her staff; and Mr. Edgardo Javarez, Program Director of DYSP and PROMO Nutri Com’s P.R.O.

During the said nutrition forum, Officer-in-Charge Blanco presented the Medium-Term Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (MTPPAN), Nutrition Officer III Tan lectured on the Guidelines of Operation Timbang while PNAO Paladan discussed the results of the 2012 Operation Timbang (OPT) of Palawan with highlights on barangays with high Malnutrition Prevalence Rate (MPR). Two other resource speakers were also invited namely Ms. Liza Marie Victoria Dillena, Officer-in-Charge of the Health and Nutrition Unit of the Department of Education Region IV-B and Ms. Marilou Galang, Senior Science Research Specialist of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute - Department of Science and Technology. Both discussed the Nutritional Status of School Children in MIMAROPA highlighting Palawan and the Results of the 2011 Updating of the National Nutrition Survey focusing on Palawan, respectively.

It was then followed by an open forum so that municipalities can voice out their health and nutrition concerns. Representatives from different municipalities and provinces accepted the challenge and signed their commitment to alleviate hunger and reduce the prevalence of malnutrition in Palawan on behalf of the Governor and Mayors.

Provincial Health Officer Cruz gave the synthesis and his support in addressing the health and nutrition challenge which the province is facing. He ended by thanking the National Nutrition Council – MIMAROPA and the Provincial Nutrition Office of Palawan as the said forum also served as an opportunity to bring together prime advocates of good nutrition from the 22 municipalities of the province of Palawan.
