Cebu City – Legislators represented by Negros Oriental Philippine Councilors’ League President and Bais City Councilor Hon. Bruno G. Bouffard III expressed his and his league’s support to nutrition. His manifestation of commitment was conveyed during the online forum of legislators and youth leaders for the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023-2028. The forum dubbed “PRO Nutrition: A call to Legislators and Youth Leaders for PPAN Engagement” was held on 09 November 2022.
Council Bouffard in his message also encouraged his fellow councilors to support any nutrition program and prioritize nutrition in their local governments. Two-hundred five virtual participants joined the event organized by the Central Visayas Regional Nutrition Committee and was co-organized by the Philippine Councilors League and the National Youth Commission Visayas. This forum was initiated by NNC 7 to engage both the legislative and youth sectors to support the implementation of the successor PPAN 2023-2028.
Regional Nutrition Committee Vice-Chair and Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Joel A. Elumba represented by Technical Director for Research and Regulations Dir. Wilberto O. Castillo in his inspirational message stressed that malnutrition is a multifaceted problem and requires a multisectoral solution. We all have a share therefore we must act together to achieve our vision towards a well-nourished Central Visayas, said the statement of RED Elumba.
The event was highlighted with a discussion on the region’s nutrition situation by NNC 7 Nutrition Officer III Nasudi G. Soluta, and an overview of the PPAN 2023-2025 by NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission. There was also a sharing of experiences with Bais City Nutrition Action Officer and CeVANAO, Inc. President, Dr. Corazon R. Cablao, and NYC-Cebu Presidential Staff Officer I Ms. Cherry Mae L. Malate on nutrition legislation and good nutrition practices of youth leaders.
With the finalization of PPAN 2023-2028, a series of forum will be initiated by NNC 7 along with its partners to engage more sectors in the implementation of the successor plan.
