BONTOC, Mountain Province, Apr.13 (PIA) – The provincial leadership here  has  come up with a scheme  of helping the farmers  while  providing nourishment for the  constituents amidst the implementation of the enhanced  community quarantine as a preventive measure to halt the transmission of the coronavirus 2019(COVID-19).

The “East-to-West, West-to-East” is an  agri-scheme  initiated by the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) and the Office of the Congressman,  wherein produce  from  vegetable producing towns in the  western part of the province are  brought to the non-vegetable producing eastern municipalities. In turn, the products of the eastern towns, mainly bananas are delivered to the western towns as relief assistance in this time of COVID.

With the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases, Filipino citizens continues to fight this disease amidst the crisis and fear it brought.

Throughout the country, a State of Public Health Emergency had been proclaimed by President Rodrigo Duterte on 8 March 2020 as the Secretary of Health confirmed the first local transmission of COVID-19 on 7 March 2020. 1

As of 4PM of March 26, 2020, the Department of Health reports 71 new cases of COVID-19 bringing a total number of cases to 707 in the country. 2 Whereas, in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), there are a total of 198 Persons Under Investigations (PUIs) and 4 confirmed cases as of 5:00 pm of 25 March. 3

As part of the management of this pandemic, all people whether in households, establishments, schools and workplaces were advised to stay at home in quarantine for safety, containment and prevent spread of the viral disease.

In the face of the month-long quarantine, here are recommendations to stay healthy while at home.

February is Heart’s Month!

Proclamation No. 1096, series 1973 declared the month of February of every year as the Philippine Heart Month to raise awareness of the nation that there is an urgency to attend to the growing prevalence of heart disease cases.

As the whole nation celebrates hearts month, let us remember to care for our heart emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. It is said that the true wealth of a nation is the health of its people and a nation can stand only as strong and healthy as its people are strong and healthy as well.

The Civil Service Commission Cordillera Administrative Region enjoined all government employees to adopt and implement the Pinggang Pinoy Based-Menu (PPBM) in support of the government campaign to continually increase awareness on the importance of healthy diet.

CSC-CAR in coordination with National Nutrition Council-CAR Issued a memorandum circular no. 02. S.2020 to all heads of national government agencies, state universities and colleges, government-owned controlled corporations with original charters, infrastructure and utilities groups, and all government agencies in the region to support the campaign against nutrition-deficiency problems, non-communicable diseases and to ensure the mainstreaming and institutionalization of health programs in government offices.

LAGAWE, Ifugao, (PIA)- -The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute conducted a pre-survey conference and coordination regarding the 2020 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) at the Provincial Capitol Atrium here.

The meeting attended by the DOST-Ifugao, Provincial Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Health Officers, ABC President, Barangay Captains, Nutrition staff and Barangay Nutrition Scholars  was intended to inform and orient the participants regarding the 2020 ENNS that covers the 11 municipalities of  the  province.

NAOA CAR elects new set of officer 2

BAGUIO CITY – The Nutrition Action Officers Association of Cordillera Administrative Region (NAOA-CAR) elected new set of officers during their meeting at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City on March 12, 2020.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officers (PNAOs) and Municipal Nutrition Action officers  from the various provinces attended  the  meeting presided over by the outgoing president Ms. Gladys Asiong where they elected the new set of officers for 2020-2022 and to provide other updates to the attendees. The newly set of officers were as follows:

PRESIDENT: Mr. Jimmy Taguilingon (NAO, Asipulo, Ifugao)

VICE PRESIDENT: Ms. Gladys Asiong, (MNAO, Kapangan, Benguet)
