Women: The Cornerstone of a Child’s Good NutritionAs we are celebrating the 2019 National Women’s Month with the theme: “We Make Change Work for Women” which highlights the empowerment of women as active contributors to development, we usually focus on gender equality and women empowerment.

It is a fact that both are equally contributor to and benefit from development and changes, there are other aspects that women are considerably at the top over the other particularly on child’s development.

Thus, the gender needs of women as stated in the Magna Carta for women should be continually strengthened.

Women are considered superheroes in all aspect of a child’s development. A woman’s knowledge in all aspects of life which includes, nutrition, health, personal development and basic principles in life has a great correlation to a child’s intellectual and physical potential to the society.

Before a child’s conception, a woman needs to prepare her physical, mental and emotional well-being to conceive a healthy baby. The healthy condition of a woman plays a vital role in developing a child. Unique nutritious dietary choices should be practiced for a woman to achieve a healthy condition.

Due to several studies proving that fad diets are medically unsuitable and unsustainable with many dieters, the National Nutrition Council - being the country’s highest policy-making body on nutrition, developed Resolution No. 4, Series of 2018: “Adopting the NNC Policy Statement on Fad Diets”, and continuously seeks for the aid of all nutrition practitioners, health and nutrition workers and medical allied professionals to educate the general public on the false beliefs against fad dieting.Society nowadays has set its standards when it comes to judging one’s physical attributes. Having the perfect body is one good example of what is being inclined onto “looking good”. In todays millennial community, we cannot detract everyone’s rising attachment to what the social media sites, writings from popular magazines and product advertisements brought by the television can affect one’s judgments on proper health and nutrition. Due to these social outlets, Fad Diets came to fame to the curious public.

Fad diets as defined by most academical studies are any type of eating practices that promise quick results especially in achieving weight loss. Another definition according to the American Heart Association states that fad dieting takes many forms through the promotion of the consumption of specific foods termed as “miracle” and “super foods”, or rather elimination of certain foods.

Before falling in love with someone, let us fall in love with our hearts first to ensure that we are healthy and ready to love someone. What is the first thing we think if we hear the word heart? Perhaps, it can be love, husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, or our family. Some may also think of valentine’s day or others call it heart’s day.

Since we celebrate Heart Month every February and Valentine’s Day is approaching, let’s talk about heart before we fall in love. According to Merriam-Webster, heart is a hollow muscular organ of the body that expands and contracts to move blood through the arteries and veins. The blood supplies the body with oxygen and nutrients which is the vital role of the heart in our body. The heart is also regarded as the center of a person's thoughts and emotions, especially love or compassion. Therefore, we need to take care of our hearts.
