28 OCTOBER 2019—The National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I (NNC1) joined the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration 2019 with the theme, “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts with Me” held at Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC), Dagupan City, Pangasinan organized by the Department of Health- Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD1).
The celebration was participated by around one hundred fifty (150) senior citizens from nearby municipalities of Pangasinan.
The Elderly Week is being celebrated annually which started 25 years ago through Presidential Proclamation No. 470 s 1994 declaring the first week of October as the “Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino” or “Elderly Filipino Week”. It is dedicated to our Filipino elderly ages 60 years old and above which aims to accord recognition to older person’s contribution in nation-building.

Baguio City—Twenty-two (22) Local Government Units (LGUs) of Pangasinan crafted their respective local nutrition action plans 2020-2022 during the workshop on integrating nutrition in the local development plans held on October 22-25, 2019 at Chalet Hotel, Baguio City.
The workshop was organized by the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I (NNC-ROI) and the NNC’s Nutrition Policy and Planning Division in coordination with the Department of the Interior and Local Government- Regional Office I (DILG-ROI) with the assistance of consultants from Nutrition International.
Dr. Rosario Pamintuan, Chief of Local Health Support Division of the Department of Health-Center for Development 1 (DOH-CHD1) graced the activity on behalf of Regional Nutrition Committee Chair and DOH-CHD1 Director, Dr. Valeriano Jesus Lopez.

September 4, 2019-- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) lauded Local Government Units (LGUs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) during the Gawad Parangal ng Nutrisyon 2019 held at Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center, Alaminos City, Pangasinan for their exemplary performance in nutrition program implementation resulting to improved nutrition situation of infants, children, pregnant and lactating women and other vulnerable groups in their respective areas.
These nutrition champions were identified during the conduct of the 2019 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI)-Pro which is an effective tool in assessing their compliance to quality nutrition standards and in the efficient implementation of their respective local nutrition action plans.
DOH-CHD 1 Regional Director Valeriano Jesus V. Lopez graced the event as the keynote speaker and applauded all the awardees for reaching this far. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and its essence to the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), Nutrition Workers, and fellow Nutrition Advocates to continue providing quality nutrition service in the ground.
On the other hand, Mayor Arth Bryan Celeste warmly welcomed all the guests and awardees to the Home of the Hundred Islands- Alaminos City. He stressed in his message the importance of investing in nutrition programs especially in the local government to ensure the welfare not only of the children but the whole community.

BAGUIO CITY- The Province of Ilocos Sur in close coordination with the National Nutrition Council Regional Office 1 and LUPangIlocos Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) Federation, Inc. successfully hosted this year’s 9th Regional BNS Congress with the theme: “BNSs: Patuloy ang Pagbibigay ng Dekalidad na Serbisyong Pangnutrisyon…push natin ‘to!” held on September 17-18, 2019 at the Diamond Grand Ballroom, Hotel Supreme, Baguio City.
This annual event was attended by around 800 BNSs coming from the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan; officers and members of the District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators Association of the Philippines, Inc. (D/CNPCAP, Inc.); and invited guests.
Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco delivered the touching message of Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, Executive Director of the National Nutrition Council as the keynote speaker. In her message, she inspired the BNSs to continue to deliver genuine public service and unending devotion to achieve good nutrition for all.

27 July 2019--The National Nutrition Council- Regional Office 1 (NNC-ROI) joined the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office I in the Outreach Project for Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in one of the region’s Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA)- Barangay Duplas, Sudipen, La Union. This was attended by around 200 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.
The activity aims to encourage the beneficiaries to continue to be compliant to the program’s requirements as well as to reach-out the IPs and deliver social services closer to the Indigenous Cultural Communities towards improved health, nutrition, and education among the beneficiaries.

The Provincial Government of Pangasinan through the Provincial Health Office held the 9th annual Provincial Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Congress on October 11 at the President’s Hotel, Lingayen.
Anchored on the theme, “Barangay Nutrition Scholar: Aktibo at patuloy sa serbisyong pang-nutrisyon para sa kalusugan ng Pangasinan, push natin to!”, this year’s congress aimed to continue and improve the health-related activities in the province.
The BNS program is a nationwide human resource development strategy which recruits, trains, deploys, and supervises volunteer workers on the barangay-level health projects. The program further mandates the improvement of life quality in the barangays.
Moreover, this program is also created to monitor the nutritional status of the barangay in order to address their community health, food production, sanitation, and family planning. However, the program’s main target are children and pregnant women.
