PGIN Article(PGIN-CMO)Ilocos Norte's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council (PDRRMC) and Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) will be implementing a 120-day feeding program starting April 27.

This initiative focuses on feeding undernourished children with Nutribun and pasteurized Choco-Milk drink during the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic to improve their nutritional status and boost their immune system.

First distributed for the supplementary feeding program of public elementary school children in the 70s under the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Ilocos Norte's Nutribun provision aims to improve the nutritional status of children as well.

"This project is a part of the service package under Nutrition in Emergencies where attention to feeding malnourished children during the COVID-19 pandemic is deemed essential and relevant to improve their nutritional status and boost their immune system," PDRRMC and PNC mentioned in a statement.

Indeed, the municipality is now reaping the fruit of their intensive effort on their established municipal greenhouse as additional source of vitamins and minerals for the pregnant women.

This is one of the projects under home and community food production components of the NNC’s Early Childhood Care and Development for the First 1000 Days of Life (ECCD-F1K) piloted in town with the aim to help increase the number of households with home food production, primarily for home consumption, and for use in complementary feeding.

Binili ng lokal na pamahalaan ang mga naturang produkto upang magbigay ng dagdag na kita sa mga magsasaka ngayong panahon ng lockdown at quarantine dulot ng pandemya.

Bawat food pack na nakalaan para sa isang bata ay naglalaman ng bagong aning kalabasa, talong, kamatis, bunga ng malunggay, at melon o honeydew. Ito ay sinamahan din ng sandosenang itlog.

PIA articleSAN FERNANDO CITY, Apr. 15 (Anne Hazel Flores,PIA-1) – The National Nutrition Council-Region 1 (NNC-1) encouraged lactating moms to exclusively breastfeed their babies amid the enhanced community quarantine in the entire Luzon due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Ang breastfeeding ay kumpletong pagkain para sa iyong anak sa kanyang unang anim na buwan,” said NNC-1 OIC Nutrition Program Coordinator Kendall Pilgrim Gatan.

According to NNC-1, lactating mothers must not give any food, water or any liquid drink to babies from zero to six months old.

NNC-1 dissuades liquid drink such as infant formula milk, powdered milk, and other milk products; breastmilk substitute; commercial baby food including feeding bottles, artificial nipples, and teats to be used by infants.

“Ang gatas ng ina ay sapat na para punuan ang pagkauhaw at gutom ng isang sanggol sa kanyang unang anim na buwan,” he added.

PlantsvsCovid19SAN FERNANDO CITY, April 12 (Joanne Namnama P. Dilim,PIA-1) – La Union residents will start receiving survival seed packs as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) launched “Plants vs COVID-19” program on April 11.

Myrna Picazo,  assistant provincial agriculturist and program coordinator, said this innovation aims to provide survival seed pack for backyard gardening to the households of the province.

“We hope to provide additional food source to our residents during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Picazo.

She informed that a total of 4,000 households shall initially benefit from the program.

Two hundred households will be accommodated for each from the 20 component local government units (LGUs) in La Union.

“First come, first served basis shall be observed,” Picazo said, adding that only one seed pack shall be given to each household.

This was reiterated today by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD 1) through an advisory signed by DOH-CHD1 Director IV and Regional Nutrition Committee Chairperson, Dr. Valeriano Jesus Lopez addressed to the Provincial/City/Municipal Health Officers, Provincial/City/Municipal Nutrition Actions Officers, District Nutrition Program Coordinators, Medical Center Chiefs, Provincial Health Team Leaders, DOH representatives and all other concerned.

The advisory strongly emphasized during emergency and disaster situation that all Local Government Units, Rural Health Units, Retained and District Hospitals are hereby requested to strictly implement the Executive Order 51, The Philippine Milk Code and the DOH – AO No. 2007 – 0017 regarding acceptance and processing of donations.
