SAN FERNANDO CITY, (Anne Hazel Flores, PIA-1) – Aiming to promote the reduction in stunting incidence, the National Nutrition Council in the Ilocos (NNC-1) is carrying out various activities in celebration of the 46th National Nutrition Month (NM).
According to NNC-1, the celebration is focused on stunting or "pagkabansot," an impaired growth and development that children experience from poor nutrition, repeated infection and inadequate psychosocial stimulation which affects the physical and mental development of a person.

The Regional Nutrition Committee of Region 1 (RNC1) successfully kicked-off the 46th Nutrition Month Celebration via online and on-air on July 2, 2020 with the theme “Batang Pinoy SAMA ALL… Iwas Stunting SANA ALL! Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19!”. The launching was posted on live streaming at the official Facebook Page of NNC-ROI simulcasted at the official Facebook page of the Philippine Information Agency 1 (PIA1) and in various local radio stations regionwide to include DZRD Sonshine Radio-Dagupan, DWFB Radyo Pilipinas-Laoag, Nutriskwela Radyo Kailian in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur and Nutriskwela Radyo Karruba in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. The same was and will be replayed in other stations who are members of the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates-1 (RONDA-1), Inc.
Mr. Kendall Gatan, Officer in-charge of NNC-ROI opened the Nutrition Month Launching showcasing the importance of this year’s celebration followed by a video presentation on the key messages relevant to this year’s theme.
In his message, OIC Gatan encouraged everyone to participate in various nutrition related activities, not only during Nutrition Month but all throughout the year.

City of San Fernando, La Union—Nutrition Month is just around the corner as July is fast approaching. Once again, the National Nutrition Council Region I (NNC1) will hold the Nutri-jingle Video Contest Season 3 as part of the month long-activities for this year’s celebration in partnership with the LUPang Ilocos Barangay Nutrition Scholar Federation, Inc.
The 46th Nutrition Month is focused on stunting with the theme “Batang Pinoy, SANA TALL… Iwas Stunting, SAMA ALL! Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19!”
The Nutri-jingle Season 3 will be participated by a total of 8 entries from all over the region with two (2) Barangay Nutrition Scholar groups in each province.
One of the challenges of this year’s contest in the context of COVID-19 pandemic is the strict adherence to the minimum public health standards. The participants shall observe protocols like wearing of mask and ensure social distancing.

City of San Fernando, La Union-- National Nutrition Council-Regional Office 1 (NNC1) to hold the Idol Ko si Nanay at Tatay sa Kusina: An Online Complementary Feeding Cooking Demo series which will be aired and viewed at the official Facebook page of NNC1 every Saturday of July 2020 at 10:00 in the morning as part of the 46th celebration of this year’s Nutrition Month.
This digital nutrition campaign aims to provide positive impact on the awareness and behavior of parents especially in the preparation of their kids’ low cost yet nutritious transition food.
Mr. Kendall Gatan, OIC-Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC1 emphasized that the complementary feeding cooking demo series is a digital campaign that will demonstrate preparation of healthy, safe, and affordable food appropriate for the child’s age.
“Basically, the target will be the parents of young children ages 6-23 months old to ensure the proper nutrition of these children in their First 1000 Days of life,” he added.
The unique activity will be anchored by Ms. Helen Joy Bugaling of NNC1 who will also serve as the cook of the said show.

Nutrition Month is celebrated annually on the month of July by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 491 known as Nutrition Act of the Philippines to create greater awareness among Filipino people on the importance of nutrition. The nutrition month campaign is spearheaded by the National Nutrition Council in coordination with the local government units, agencies, academe as well as other stakeholders.

LUPANGILOCOS REGION- The National Nutrition Council Regional Office 1 is calling everyone’s participation on the Nutrition Month Pagbati Challenge in its fifth season starting June 29, 2020onwards in celebration to the 46th Nutrition Month and its launching with the theme: “Batang Pinoy…SANA TALL, Iwas Stunting… SAMA ALL! IWAS ALL din sa COVID-19!”.
The challenge has been a non-contest annual activity being participated by all Regional Line Agencies, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Federations, Nutrition Action Officers, media partners, Non-Government Organizations, colleges, universities and other partners to show support on the theme with its month-long nutrition month launching to a year-round celebration, and to bring a widespread awareness of proper nutrition to the general public.
Mechanics of the said challenge include:
The agency/LGU/office/group will prepare a maximum of a 2-minute video presentation in mp4 or avi format in support to the nutrition month celebration.
The video will be in Ilocano/Pangasinense, Filipino or English.
The video presentation will include the following:
a. The regional director/regional head/local chief executive/office head/group leader will deliver his/her brief message in support to the Nutrition Month Celebration 2020 if possible.
b. The staff (all staff/participant if possible) in unison will recite “Magandang araw mga kanutrisyon, nais po naming batiin ang bawat isa ng malusog at masustansyang pagdiriwang ng nutrition month 2020 na may temang: “Batang Pinoy SANA TALL…Iwas Stunting SAMA ALL”.
