Cebu City - In celebration of the 47th Nutrition Month, the Central Visayas Association of Nutrition Action Officers, Inc. (CeVANAO Inc.) will share complementary feeding tips online. Dubbed as Comple Nutri Tips, the project will maximize the use the social media platform in creating awareness on the whys and hows of proper complementary feeding. It will showcase nutrition action officers in short video clips sharing tips in the preparation and provision of complementary food to children 6-23 months old and promote the importance of timely, appropriate, safe and adequate (TASA) complementary feeding among mothers, family members, and caregivers.

Complementary feeding is a process when breastmilk alone is no longer sufficient to meet the nutritional requirements of infants, and therefore other foods and liquids are needed, along with breastmilk. This typically covers the period from 6-24 months of age, while continuing breastfeeding until 2 years of age and beyond. Complementary feeding is one of the critical interventions in the First 1000 Days. The first 1,000 days of life is considered as the “golden window of opportunity of a child’s life”. It is the time spanning roughly between conception and the child’s second birthday. This is a unique period of opportunity when the foundations of optimum health, growth, and neurodevelopment across the lifespan are established.
