PALO, LEYTE - Nutrition advocates across the country were gathered to be trained and updated with the Maternal Nutrition Infant Young Child Feeding (MNIYCF) Peer Counseling in two batches on 15-18 October and 15-25 October 2019 at B Hotel, Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila.
The said training was in line with the Republic Act 11148 otherwise known as “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act” and its Implementing Rules and Regulations led by the Department of Health in its continued commitments to improve the health, well-being and nutrition interventions of mothers and children.

PALO, LEYTE - A total of about 120 local government units in Eastern Visayas is now equipped with the knowledge and skills on how to effectively integrate nutrition of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) programs and projects in the updating of Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP), Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and the Local Development Investment Program (LDIP) Fiscal Year 2020-2022.
The planning workshop on integrating nutrition in the PDPFP, CDP and LDIPs was conceived primarily to: (1) increase the understanding of provincial/city/municipal teams on the alarming problem of malnutrition in the country and its impact on national and local development, and the need to scale up nutrition in their plans and budgets by effectively making the case of why and how to invest in nutrition; (2) effectively integrate PPAN programs and projects in the updating of PDPFPs, CDPs and LDIPs FY 2020-2022;(3) further strengthen the capacity for factoring nutrition in the overall preparation of PDPFPs, CDPs and LDIPs FY 2020-2022 among development stakeholders; and (4) In the process of integrating nutrition in the updating of PDPFPs, CDPs and LDIPs FY 2020-2022, formulate local nutrition action plans for these local government units.

Palo, Leyte – Around 200 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) in Eastern Visayas’ six provinces gathered here at the Department of Education (DepEd) Leyte Division Gymnasium to mark their being front-liners in the battle against malnutrition in Region 8 on July 30, 2019.
The activity capped the Nutrition Month celebration of July carrying the theme: “Kumain nang Wasto at Maging Aktibo…Push Nation ‘to!” And as the theme directed the serious discussions of the gathering was mixed with more fun activities—all involving physical activity.

Gadaingan, Nation Builder) – Marking of the 45th Nutrition Month with the theme: “Kumain nang wasto at Maging Aktibo…Push Natin ‘to!” encouraging to eat healthy diet and espousing active lifestyle by disengaging sedentary behavior, inspired the frontline nutrition managers in Eastern Visayas headed by the National Nutrition Council Region VIII (NNC-8) to list a number of contests--all entailing physical activity as among the month-long July celebration.
The recognition and awarding of the contest winners was conducted during the 45th Nutrition Month Culmination and Awarding Ceremonies on July 30, 2019 at the Department of Education (DepEd) Leyte Division Gymnasium, Government Center, Palo, Leyte.

Palo, Leyte – The Department of Health Eastern Visayas – Center for Health Development successfully conducted the 2nd Regional Breastfeeding Forum on August 20, 2019 at Leyte Park Hotel, Tacloban City. It was in observance of the 2019 Breastfeeding Awareness Month with the theme "Lakas ng Magulang, Sigla ng Pagpapasuso - Kalusugan, Nutrisyon at Kinabukasan ng kabataan.” Over seventy-five (75) health offices, district hospitals, private hospitals, local government units, government offices, and non-government entities from various provinces, cities, and municipalities attended the activity. One of the main topics discussed was the human milk bank and its significance.
The Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) is the first government hospital in the Eastern Visayas to establish a Human Milk Bank. It was inaugurated on February 28, 2019 but was already operating since the year 2017.
