article net GA imageThe National Nutrition Council (NNC) national nutrition evaluation team validation visits officially starts with the conduct of the National Evaluation Team (NET) general assembly held at the NNC Board Room on 29 March 2017. An interagency NET convened to discuss procedures in assessing the efficiency and effectiveness of local nutrition program management and implementation of the 19 local government units (LGUs) vying for various nutrition awards.

The NET will conduct validation visits from April to June in 11 areas vying for the First-Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Regional Winners in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award, 7 areas vying for Second Year CROWN Maintenance and 1 area vying for the Nutrition Honor Award.

23 March 2017 – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed on March 8, 2017 the two private sector representatives to the NNC Governing Board namely: Dr. Amado R. Parawan, Health and Nutrition Advisor of Save the Children and Representative of the Philippine Coalition of Advocates for Nutrition Security (PhilCAN); and Mr. Romeo C. Dongeto, Executive Director of Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD).

The National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) Nutrition Surveillance Division conducted an orientation for new members of the National Evaluation Team (NET) for the Search for the 2016 National Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (NOBNS), Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition Maintenance Awardees and Nutrition Honor Awardees. The participants consist of representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government, National Economic and Development Authority, University of the Philippines-Los Baños, the Philippine Coalition of Advocates for Nutrition Security (PhilCAN), Inc. member from Gems Heart Outreach Development Inc., and Council for the Welfare of Children.

Children grow in an amazingly fast rate during the first few years of life. Tracking the height and weight of a child has been the established parameter of the child’s growth and development. Other than increases in height and weight, children also go through major development stages, which are the easily identifiable skills of walking, running, rolling over, holding a cup, among others, which are referred to as “developmental milestones.” These developmental milestones are certain skills and tasks that a child can do at a certain age range, classified into domains namely fine motor, receptive and expressive language, cognitive, self- help, and social- emotional aspects.
