In preparation for implementation of the Local Nutrition Early Warning System to as many areas in the country, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) is once again conducting a series of capacity-building activities among identified Local Nutrition Early Warning System core group of the next batch of (10) local government units. The recently conducted two (2) batches of municipal and city level training for the LNEWS core group is the second part of the capacity-building activities for these cities and municipalities. The Consultative-Workshop with individual cities and municipalities is the first part, conducted between May to August 2017.

IPHO Sulu - Over 61 participants from different agencies attended the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days Signing of Memorandum of Agreement and Signing of Pledge of Commitment and Presentation of the Work and Financial Plan with a Theme: “I am for ECCD F1K” last April 26, 2017 at Dr. Sixto Y. Orosa Hall, IPHO - Sulu.
The National Nutrition Council-ARMM spearheaded the said affair in partnership with the Integrated Provincial Health Office - Sulu. It aimed to fortify partnership between the NNC-ARMM and the IPHO-Sulu to ensure holistic development of the child through coordinated implementation of the F1K components. The program primarily focuses in the delivery of various health services under ECCD component such as prenatal care among pregnant women, nutrition counseling, childhood immunization, exclusive breastfeeding, proper complementary feeding and other health services.

The interagency IPC analyst group conducted the third and fourth rounds of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) chronic food security analysis workshops on 20-24 March and 3-7 April 2017, respectively to determine the level of chronic food insecurity in the remaining 38 provinces from Luzon and Visayas. The analysis covered the provinces of La Union (Region 1); Quirino (Region 2); Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales (Region 3), Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal (4A), Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan (MIMAROPA); Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province (CAR); Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Sorsogon (Region 5); Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental (Region 6); Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental And Siquijor (Region 7); and Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar and Southern Leyte (Region 8).

Selected staff of NNC participated in the Basic GIS Training Using QGIS headed by the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) on 5-9 June 2017 at the NAMRIA Geomatics Center in Taguig City. Nutrition Officers II Margarita DC. Enriquez from the Nutrition Policy and Planning Division, Jeline Marie M. Corpuz and Racelline Faye D. Calangi from the Nutrition Surveillance Division, together with 9 other participants from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Tourism (DOT), Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) trained in basic mapping concepts and use of different kinds of maps.
