To formulate the Regional Nutrition Strategic Action Plan, the Regional Nutrition Committee Region 10 was convened in a two-day live-out workshop on July 5 to 6 2012 at the Hotel Conchita, Cogon, Cagayan de Oro City. The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Heidi Grace P. Mendoza,CPA,MBA, a Lead Consultant from Create one Consulting. The workshop process included the presentation of the PPAN 2011-2016 and the Northern Mindanao Nutrition Situation Report 2012, lectures, small group workshops and discussions. A highly consultative and consensus building process was adopted using the technology of participation.
Translating the PPAN into specific actions is primarily a responsibility of the local government units (LGU), but the Regional Nutrition Committees (RNC) play an important role in harmonizing all nutrition efforts. As it serves as the link between the national government and the local communities, the RNCX needs to establish a strategic and action-oriented plan as the main objective of this workshop.
The workshop was attended by representatives from different agencies, viz; Ms. Beryl Go,NDIV and Ms. Leticia Culanag, Admin asst II from the Department of Health , Dr. Ella Cecilia Nalipongit, M.O IV ,Ms. Ruth D. Alejado, ND1 and Ms. Jefi Hona,NDII from the Department of Education, Ms. Juvy Ann Pimente,RND from the Nutritionist and Dietetians Association of the Philippines Misamis Oriental Chapter, Ms. Eva Pacturan, Agriculturist II from the Department of Agriculture, Ms. Daisy Canda, AOIV from the Department of Budget and Management, Ms. Leonila G. Cajarte, Chief EDS and Ms. April Ann Tiguli, EDSII from the National Economic and Development Authority and Ms. Sheryl Nacario, NDIII from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, representatives from Local Government Unit also attended the workshop, viz; Ms. Rica Raguro,CNAO (City of Malaybalay), Mr. Elmer S. Risonar , CNAO (City of Ginggog), Ms. Lelita Navarez,CNAO (City of Ozamis), Ms. Estrelita Madjos, PNAO and Anecito Torayno,DNPC(Province of Bukidnon), Jesus Dumangon, MNAO (Municipality of Kadingilan).

21 December 2012 -The National Nutrition Council Region X finally launched “MANGO DIEZ”, as its local media partner at Grand Caprice Restaurant, Limketkai Center, Lapasan Cagayan de Oro City during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony. This local media group MANGO DIES stands for Media Advocates for Nutrition in GOvernance and DIEZ stands for Region 10, it could also connote the revised 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) or the 10 steps to Successful Breastfeeding and 10Key Messages in Complementary Feeding. This media group is organized as the partner of the National Nutrition Council Region X in (1) the effective dissemination of nutrition information and advocacies through the power of media,(2) will be the Region partner in nutrition surveillance which means our watch dog in the community for early detection of nutrition problems and concerns, (3) act as one of our community advocators in nutrition, (4) as our informer in the nutrition situation of the region and lastly (5) as one of the region’s active promoters of good nutrition practices.
Our media partner was introduced by NPC Zenaida T Tondares with the Regional Nutrition Committee Chairperson Director Aristedes Concepcion Tan of the Department of Health X and Ms Cecil Aca-ac from Department of Science and Technology X and Ms Jury Valcorza of PIA X and led also the launching event, the unveiling of revised 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF). “MANGO DIEZ” our newly introduced media group together with NPC Tondares and Director Tan connoted to continue to promote good nutrition practices by signing in the newly unveiled revised10 NGF.
MANGO DIEZ will surely be an inspiration to everyone in the region specially LGUs because nutrition starting today already has a strong partner in terms of information dissemination and in advocacy as we do our share to fight against hunger and malnutrition in our communities.

9-27 November 2012 -- NNC Region X conducted three batches of trainings on Promotion of Good Nutrition (PGN) for the nutrition program implementers of Misamis Oriental province. The series of 8-day trainings, conducted at Apple Tree Hotel and Resort in Opol, Misamis Oriental, was attended by City/ Municipal Health Officers, City/ Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Nurses and Midwives from the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Gingoog and El Salvador and from the municipalities of Alubijid, Balingasag, Balingoan, Binuangan, Claveria, Gitagum, Initao, Jasaan, Kinuguitan, Lagonglong, Laguindingan, Libertad, Lugait, Manticao, Meidna, Opol, Salay, Sugbongcugon, Talisayan and Villanueva.
The training focuses mainly on the promotion of good nutrition, more specifically on breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding for infants and training on the use of syllabi on the promotion of egg and vegetable consumption. Through this, hunger situation could be addressed in the community.
The program on the Promotion on good nutrition component of AHMP aims to improve the nutrition knowledge, attitudes and practices of families to increase demand for adequate, nutritious and safe food. More specifically, the program aims to increase the number of infants 0-6 months who are exclusively breastfed. It also aims to reduce the number of infants receiving food and drink other than breast milk. Moreover, it aims to increase the number of infants 6-9 months old who are given calorie and nutrient-dense complementary foods and increase number of households with improved diets in terms of quality and quantity and increase involvement in household food production activities.

The training on the new Child Growth Standard for 28 Barangay Nutrition Scholars from the Municipality of Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental was conducted by the National Nutrition Council Region 10 last 30 January 2013 of WQMC Function Hall at Poblacion, Sapang Dalaga. The training was facilitated by Ms Helen G. Alferez, Nutrition Officer III of National Nuitrition Council Region X together with Provincial Nutrition Action Officer-Ms Maguinda Manigsaka of Misamis Occidental, Ms Grace Caliso-Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Calamba, Misamis Occidental as trained previously on WHO CGS. Full support was provided by the Municipal Nutrition Committee Chair – Honorable, Mayor Donjie D Animas and the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer - Ms Marilyn Elnas.
The CGS Training is NNC’s capacity building support for top 100 nutritionally depressed municipalities based on 2011 OPT National rank’s results. NNC provided financial assistance to the training which aimed to capacitate the Barangay Nutrition Scholar and as follows: (1) use the ECCD, (2) recognized the signs of Marasmus and Kwashiorkor, (3) measure and record the child’s weight and length/height, (4) understand the three different growth monitoring and feeding using the prescribe job aid (5) actual measurement of children.
Sapang Dalaga is one among 100 municipalities with highest prevalence of underweight children based on 2011 OperationTimbang results. Each Barangay was represented by one BNS.

The National Nutrition Council Region X held the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony last December 21, 2012 at Grand Caprice Restaurant Limketkai Center Lapasan Cagayan de Oro City. Nutrition Program Coordinator Zenaida T Tondares delivered the opening and welcome message while Regional Director Aristides Concepcion Tan of the Department of Health Region X inspired everyone with his statement noting that “nutrition is very important specially at the first stage of life”. He emphasized that giving proper nutrition at this stage will lessen the risk of having lifestyle diseases. The awarding ceremony was also ground by Congressman Maximo Bautista Rodriquez Jr ABANTE MINDANAO Party List who also delivered his message during the program. Congressman Rodriguez committed to support initiatives to increase incentives for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) for the region.
The National Nutrition Council Region X recognized this year’s green banner awardees based on Monitoring and Evaluation of the 2011 Local Level Plan Implementation conducted by the inter agency Regional Evaluation Team (RETX) in 2012, viz:
