Operation Timbang 2012 Region X Results Out6 February 2013 - Operation Timbang is conducted every first quarter of the year, through house to house visit for the mass weighing of children 0-71 months to identify malnourished children. National Nutrition Council Region X finally released OPT 2012 result of the region. A total of 584, 900 children aged 0-71 months were weighed. Some 421, 900 or 72.13 percent had normal weight; 33,894 or 5.9 percent were underweight; 7663 or 1.31 percent were severely underweight; and 7047 preschool or 1.20 percent were overweight.The result is based on weight for age data submitted by its five provinces and nine cities in region ten. Misamis Occidental recovered 9.48% having the highest prevalence rate of underweight children (0-71 months) followed by Lanao del Norte at 8.84%, Camiguin at 6.17%, Bukidnon at 5.82% and Misamis Oriental 5.18%.

Severely underweight preschool children (0-71 months old) in Lanao del Norte is at 2.62%. This province has the highest prevalence rate based on weight for age data followed by Misamis Occidental 1.96%, Bukidnon 1.07%; Misamis Oriental 1.04%; and Camiguin 0.97 %.

Per Region X data from its nine cities the summary of Operation Timbang for January-March 2012 weight for age data’s, Tangub City was the highest at 8.94 % with Valencia City at 1.80% as lowest in prevalence rate based in underweight for age children. For Severely underweight children, Oroquieta City reached this at 2.93% highest and Valencia City with 0.21% lowest prevalence rate.

Host of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station is the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte. The National Telecommunication Commission has designated “DXNE” as the new station’s call sign. Provincial Governor Mohamad Khalid Q. Dimaporo   has entered last December 2012 into a Memorandum of Agreement with DOH Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T Flores, Executive Director IV of the National Nutrition Council for the setting up of the Community Radio Station.  Dubbed by Lanao del Norte LGU as “Radyo Kalambuan”, the FM station is   94.3 Mghz in the local radio dial.  The goal of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station  is to  empower the community through radio to disseminate correct, current and relevant nutrition , health , educational and other developmental information from its various sectors of the community including  government  and non- government agencies. To empower the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station Project, MQ Media Zone conducted a hands-on training on Community Radio Broadcasting for members of the multi-sectoral Community Radio Council held at the Mindanao Civic Center Hotel in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The multi-sectoral Community Radio Council is composed of representatives from the major sectors of Lanao del Norte , viz:  the religious group represented by  Pastors Arsenio “Dhodz” Licera and  Grace M. Cabugnason of the Association of Assemblies of God , the youth sector through its leader - Mr. Lordleos Lavv L. Ladonga , the education sector – as represented by  Department of  Education School Principal  Ms Maria Eva S. Edon of Tubod National High School  and President Helen A. Tesoro of North Central Mindanao College  based at Lala, Lanao del Norte ; the farmers group is represented by  Mr. Deliman Lahoylahoy, the women’s group is represented by Ms. Jenny Vi G. Malazarte, the Senior Citizens is represented by  its President - Mr. Rolando M. Mocorro, the Tubod Police Head Quarters  as led by Police Chief Inspector (PCI) Delmani S. Sudding together with SPO4 Barquilla and PO2 Estenzo,  the Army Group representing  351 Batallion led by  Mr. Pancho O. Jamito  and  the local government unit – represented by Engr. George Dimavivas of the Provincial Health Office/concurrently designated as  Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO)  , Ms Ma. Eleonor Sarsalojo of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) , Parent Leader Ms Hearty Dula- also a BHW and Photographer - Mr Daryl Toleno .

The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team X convened a meeting at Deluxe Hotel Cagayan de Oro City to organize once again the Team for the Search of Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars 2013 in Northern Mindanao and the Search for theGreen Banner Awardees 2013 for the concerned Local Government Units.20 May 2013 - The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team X convened a meeting at Deluxe Hotel Cagayan de Oro City to organize once again the Team for the Search of Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars 2013 in Northern Mindanao and the Search for theGreen Banner Awardees 2013 for the concerned Local Government Units.

The National Nutrition Council X already deployed the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team X for the Evaluation last 28 May 2013.

30 April 2013 - After the 3 batches of Training of Trainors (TOT) of Promote Good Nutrition on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Pabasa sa Nutrisyon for P4 area last November 2012, the National Nutrition Council Region X in the whole support of Local Government of the Province of Misamis Oriental conducted the PGN Barangay Implementers Training for its 25% target Barangays for the 1st quarter of 2013 started last January 21, 2013 to April 26, 2013 with a total of 17 batches. The first batch are from the city of Elsalvador and Municipality of Opol, Misamis Oriental; 2nd batch from Municipality of Claveria; 3rd Batch from Municipality of Sugbongcogon and Kinoguitan; 4th batch from Municipality of Binuangan, Salay ang Lagonglong; the 5th batch from Municipality of Initao, Libertad and two barangays from Gitagum; 6th batch from Municipality of Alubijid, Laguindingan and the remaining 1 barangay of Gitagum; 7th  batch from municipality of Balingasag; the 8th batch from Municipality of Jasaan and Villanueva; 9th batch from the City of Cagayan de Oro(1st batch); 10th batch from Municipality of Manticao and Lugait; the 11th batch from the City of Gingoog (1st batch); 12th batch from Municipality of Talisayan and Balingoan; 13th and 14th batch is from the City of Gingoog (2nd and 3rd batch); 15th batch and 16th batch is from the City of Cagayan de Oro (2nd and 3rd batch) and the 17th batch is from Municipality of Magsaysay. In addition to that 1 more batch from the Municipality of Medina and Tagoloan is expected to be trained scheduled in the month of May. A total of 134 barangays are already covered in region X as of April 2013.

Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team X (RNET X) Chairperson  Ms Marietta V Deiparine and attested by RD Aristides Concepcion Tan of DOH-CHD X as chairperson of the Regional Nutrition Committee X, finally declares Ms. Dorothy P Felipe of  North Poblacion,  Maramag, Bukidnon as the 2013  Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Region X per June 27, 2013  2nd quarter meeting of the Regional Nutrition Committee at Boardroom, Phil Town hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.  Ms Felipe garnered the highest final score of 96% and bested among the other six contenders from the Province of Misamis Oriental and Cities of Malaybalay, Valencia, Ozamiz, Gingoog and Tangub.

The RET X visited  the 7 regional contenders within May 21- June 24, 2013. Each contender was evaluated based on performance Criteria (50%), Validation Criteria (40%) and BNS Exam (10%).

The regional contenders in this year’s search are: COBNS Remajoy M. Tante from Malaybalay City(2nd placer), POBNS Serena P. Saw-ig from Salay Misamis Oriental (3rd placer), COBNS Paciana B. Dombase from Valencia City(4th placer), COBNS Richel T. Bohol         from Ozamiz City(5th Placer), COBNS Fe M. Empenio from Gingoog City(6th placer), and COBNS Clarita C. Mangubat from Tangub City(7th placer).

The 2013 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Region X Ms Dorothy P Felipe of Barangay North Poblacion, Maramag Bukidnon is one among to top 50% ROBNS ranking who will now vie for the National Outstanding BNS Award for 2012.The 2013 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar of Region X Ms Dorothy P Felipe of Barangay North Poblacion, Maramag Bukidnon , who  garnered the highest final score of 96%, is one among to top 50% ROBNS ranking who will now vie for the National Outstanding BNS Award for 2012. The interagency National Evaluation Team (NET) is set to visit ROBNS Ms Felipe on 10-12 September 2013.  The NET will assess if efforts of BNS Felipe with the support of Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) has resulted in the improvement of the nutrition situation in her barangay. The NET shall review her action plan and accomplishments in 2012 and visit projects she initiated as well as check on her competencies in weighing and computing the nutritional status of preschool children.

The annual search for the coveted National Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (NOBNS) Award aims to evaluate the performance of BNSs and recognize those with exemplanary performance in the delivery of basic nutrition and related services in his/her area of assignment.
