4th Quarter Joint RNC LAYOUT

The Joint Regional Nutrition Committee, Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team, Regional Nutrition Cluster, Regional Nutrition Shepherding Team and ECCD-F1K Technical Working Group 4th Quarter Meeting s. 2022 was held last 9 December 2022 at Kainang Pilipino Restaurant in Tuguegarao City.

RNPC Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga presented the updated 2023-2028 Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and the integration of the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition in the Regional Development Plan. RNC members were asked to align their nutrition and nutrition-related PPAs based on updates provided including highlighting nutrition in food security.

The National Nutrition Council Region 02 held its Team Building last 5-6 December 2022 at Villa Saturnina Beach Resort in Sta. Ana, Cagayan. The Team Building Activity was attended by 8 employees of NNC RO2.

This activity aims to strengthen the relationships and strategies among employees of NNC 02 towards attaining the goals of the organization and bringing out the best in the workplace which also establishes trust and camaraderie among its employees.

Batanes

The National Nutrition Council Region II in coordination with Local Government Unit of Province of Batanes conducted First 1000 days forum cum LNAP 2023-2025 formulation last November 9-10, 2022 in Basco, Batanes.

Chief Nurse of the Provincial Health Office of Batanes, Ms. Jocelyn Verana gave the welcome remarks in lieu of Dr. Allan Sande, PHO/PNAO. RNPC Maria Gisela Lonzaga formally opened the forum and thanked everyone for their attendance. Hon. SP Chair on Health, Dr. Roel Nicolas gave an inspirational message on behalf of Hon. Gov. Marilou Cayco.

He acknowledged the efforts and contributions of the local nutrition workers in implementing the First 1000 Days program in the province. DMO II, John Nestor Ballad, presented Regional State of Nutrition and Food Security. NO III Edzell Arcinue discussed the need to focus on the First 1000 Days of Life. RNPC Lonzaga then presented the salient points of RA 11148 highlighting the roles of LGUs in the implementation of the law.

Finally, she shared the best practices of Quirino Province in the implementation of F1K Program in the province. The activity was attended by 91 LNC members, nutrition workers, and other nutritiion stakeholders in the province.

In the afternoon, NNC R2 assisted the Local Government Units of Batanes Province during the Planning Workshop on the formulation of 2023-2025 Local Nutrition Action Plan at HRTC Hall, Basco, Batanes. It was attended by 34 Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Health Officers, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, Municipal Agriculturists, Municipal Planning and Development Officers and other member of Local Nutrition Committees from LGUs of Batanes.

Joint CAR and NNC

The National Nutrition Council developed and instituted the establishment of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations in partnership with a Local Government Units or State Universities or Colleges with the intention of empowering the community through radio with the dissemination of accurate, current, and relevant information about nutrition and health, as well as educational and developmental information from all concerned sectors of the community.

The National Nutrition Council CAR and Region II successfully conducted a 3-day joint Region-led Training on the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program at Orchard Hotel, Baguio City last November 21-24, 2022.

The training and workshop aimed to orient the new management personnel of the nutriskwela community network in both regions.

Nutriskwela Community Radio Program is founded and instituted to promote nutrition and community development programming wherein, 60% of airtime is devoted to nutrition and development programs and the rest is music with no advertisements. This is to contribute to nutrition improvement by broadcasting nutrition and community development programs.

Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN-----NNC R2 assisted the Local Government Units of Isabela Province in the recently conducted second batch of Planning Workshop on 2023-2025 Local Nutrition Action Plan Finalization last 20-21 October 2022 at Brentwood Apartelle, Brentwood Village, Baguio City.

The activity aimed to provide technical assistance to LGUs in the finalization of their 2023-2025 LNAPs with consideration to nutrition program updates and the Mandanas-Garcia Ruling being implemented starting this year.

Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC Region 02 welcomed the participants and formally opened the 2-day planning workshop. She recognized the important roles of LGU planning team in formulating their respective LNAPs and to ensure that these are integrated in the local development plans and annual investment programs for assured budget and implementation. She also thanked everyone for exerting efforts in the efficient and effective implementation of nutrition programs, projects, and activities included in their current LNAPs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Day 1 covered the following topics; Overview of the workshop, formulating the nutrition situation analysis, inclusion of nutrition in the priority development challenges, setting outcome targets and defining projects and activities to achieve outcome targets. In the afternoon, participants were asked to answer their respective worksheets.

BNS Lenie

BNS Lenie Bulan’s Comprehensive Approach with Results to Eradicate Stunting (#BNSLenieCares) was once again highlighted during the face-to-face Search for National Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (NOBNS) 17-18 November 2022 held in Ilagan, City.

BNS Lenie Bulan from Cabisera 27 City of Ilagan, Isabela hailed as the 2021 Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition (ROBNS) and was one of the six entries all over the country shortlisted and evaluated for NOBNS.

Mr. Daniel Salunga of NSD-NNC led the National Nutrition Evaluation Team (NNET) together with Ms. Lyra Virtudes, (DBM) and Ms. Christle Grace Cubejo (World Vision).

“BNS Lenie is 1 of the 6 outstanding BNS which will be evaluated for their outstanding performance as BNSs we are glad to do it face to face this year,” NNET Team Leader Salunga said.

The two-day evaluation composed of computation examination, practical examination and interview in consonance with the desk review by the NNET.
