TUGUEGARAO CITY, Oct 29 - After the tedious and long process of evaluation of the regional search for outstanding Local Government Unit nutrition program implementers, the regional nutrition evaluation team has proclaimed Nueva Vizcaya as the outstanding province for this year.
Rhodora Maestre, nutrition program coordinator said Cauayan City successfully snatched the award for the city category and Ivana, Batanes landed first for the municipality category, followed by Jones, Isabela; Aparri, Cagayan; Sta Fe, Nueva Vizcaya; and Diffun, Quirino.
Maestre said the LGU contenders for this year have improved a lot as they garnered above 90 percent of their consolidated scores.
She said the evaluating team observed that most of the LGUs have introduced innovations and sustained best practices in eradicating malnutrition problems within their areas of responsibility.
“We hope that they will continue striving for the best to totally eradicate malnutrition problems. We also hope that these success stories will inspire other LGUs to improve their nutrition program implementation within their areas to resolve nutrition and health problems in the region,” Maestre.
The awardees will be recognized on November 15, 2013 in the regional awarding ceremonies tentatively scheduled in Cauayan City, Isabela.

The Quirino province through the Provincial Nutrition Committee received its first year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (Crown) maintenance award from the National Nutrition Council during the awarding ceremony last November 5,2013 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
Provincial Nutrition Officer Luningning Pacudan said the conferment of the first year Crown maintenance award to Quirino was based on the recommendation of the National Nutrition Evaluation Team (NNET) who evaluated the province last May.
She explained that the decreasing number of malnourished children in the province was one of the main factor why Quirino was able to get the first year Crown maintenance award.
Pacudan attributed the improvement of the nutritional status of the children to the various programs and projects initiated by the provincial officials headed by Gov. Junie E. Cua and their partner agencies.
One of the projects, Pacudan said, includes the Quirino Livelihood for Everyone or Q-Life which helped uplift the economic status of the Qurinians in general.

Recognizing the imperious need to continuously advocate for breastfeeding and for the good nutrition of babies and children, the National Nutrition Council Regional Office 02 conducted a four-day orientation on the community support for the Infant and Young child Feeding Program. Held at Villa Blanca Hotel in Tuguegarao City last November 19 to 22, 2013, the activity is primarily aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of health and nutrition workers on community mobilization for them to be able to organize and mobilize IYCF community support groups that will do the peer counseling of pregnant women and mothers with 0-2 years old children.
The participants in the said activity include midwives, nurses, and other health and nutrition workers from the Province of Isabela. Director Rhodora G. Maestre of NNC RO2 said that the orientation is geared towards improving further the implementation of IYCF program in the region. She also noted that the health workers are their best partners in facilitating the conduct of refresher on IYCF counseling and community support with gender concerns in the region.
On the first and second day of the activity, the participants were trained and oriented on the various steps of community mobilization on IYCF which include the mapping and identification of possible partners, conduct of community assemblies, organizing of volunteers, assessment of IYCF practices in the community, orientation of peer counselors, action planning, implementation, and the monitoring, evaluation and documentation of plans and activities.

The National Nutrition Council – Cagayan Valley Region will stage the 2012 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony to honor top performing local government units in nutrition program management in the region.
The event will be on November 18, 2013, Monday at Crown Pavillion, Tuguegarao City. Around 300 guests composed of local chief executives, nutrition action officers, barangay nutrition scholars and members of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) will attend the event.
The awarding ceremony recognizes the importance of local actions in improving the nutrition situation in the region and will be a fitting tribute to men and women who have worked hard for the nutritional well being of the populace of region II.
More than ever, this occasion will gather everyone to renew their commitment towards a common vision of nutrition adequacy for all as an important element for global competitiveness, people empowerment and human development.

To intensify the promotion of the 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos, the National Nutrition Council- Region 02 will stage a Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) Summit on December 17, 2013 at Pulsar Hotel, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. The NGF summit will be attended by nutrition officers and district/ city nutrition program coordinators throughout the Region.
The NGF summit aims to build awareness on the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos and to encourage the Nutrition Officers/ Nutrition Program Coordinators as role models in practicing the guidelines. It will be a perfect venue to inform the Nutrition Officers/ Nutrition Program Coordinators on their roles in disseminating the guidelines.
Participants are also expected to approve/ endorse a resolution supporting the promotion of the NGF at the end of the said summit.

The Regional Nutrition Committee of Cagayan Valley recently conducted the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony to recognize the various individuals and Local Government Units who made exemplary efforts in promoting good nutrition in their respective communities. The awarding ceremonies held on November 18, 2013 at the Crown Pavillion in Tuguegarao City is also aimed at recognizing the hard work and determination of these individuals and LGU’s in fighting malnutrition in the region and making them role models for the others.
Present during the said event are Ms. Jovita P. Ayson, CESO II, Regional Director BFAR and Chair of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC), the Regional Directors of the various agencies in the region who are also members of the RNC, Director Rhodora G. Maestre, Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC RO2, Local Chief Executives of the provinces, cities, and municipalities in the region and other local officials, Provincial and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, members of the media, and other stakeholders.
Director Ayson welcomed the awardees and the participants during the event and expressed her gratefulness for the notable works made by the awardees in helping to improve the nutrition situation in the region. She also paid tribute to the untiring efforts and dedication of the awardees in fighting malnutrition in the region.
Awarded during the event is Ms. Belinda B. Garcia of Barangay Nabbuan, Santiago City as first place for the Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar in the region and a cash prize of 25,000 from NNC. The second and third places were awarded to Ms. Fe B. Domingo of Paruddun Norte, Aparri, Cagayan and Ms. Jennifer B. Gabilo of Sumnanga, Sabtang, Batanes. Other Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar Awardees include Ms. Florida S. Curameng of Ysmael, Maddela, Quirino, Ms. Imelda D. Masiglat of Malasit, San Mateo, Isabela, Ms. Fely G. Dumaliang of Minante II, Cauyan City, Ms. Girlie V. Gadoy of Poblacion Norte, Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya and Ms. Rosita M. Laddaran of Annafunan West, Tuguegarao City.
