The National Nutrition Council R-02, despite the emergence of typhoon Ineng, released the fourth issue of Information about Nutrition (IFAN) magazine last August 21 at Hotel, Veniza Baguio City.
The ceremonial launching started by the giving of insights of the previous issues shared by Ms. Teresa Campos, Member Balay ni IFAN media group wherein she stated that the previous issues focused on showing how unique practices in the region help the agency in achieving its goals and objectives.
Further, the agency handed out the latest issues to the participating BNS, MNAOs and NAOs that participated in the back to back training of trainers on Basic Course for BNS and Training of Implementers on NPM who showed openly showed their appreciation for being the first ones to have the said issue.

National Nutrition Council Region 02 conducted the Nutrition Program Management training in order to constantly reinforce the knowledge, skills and the right values among the local nutrition program implementers in the region, at Hotel Venice Baguio City last August 17-21.
Nutrition action officers and nutrition officers and selected Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) staffs from the different municipalities in region 02 attended the five-day training. The course consisting of 8 modules were presented by trainers trainers/ facilitators were Ms. Henedina Cabrera – Nutrition Officer III- PHO Isabela, Ms. Luningning Rhodes- Nutrition Officer III- PHO Quirino ,Ms. Amalia Calubaquib- Nutritionist Dietician III- CHO Tuguegarao, Ms. Nareta Maximo- Nurse IV-CHO Cauayan and Ms. Leticia Puguon-Nurse IV- PHO Nueva Vizcaya.
Nutrition Program Management training is a continuing program of the National Nutrition Council designed to empower the local government units in carrying out an effective nutrition program.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, led by its regional director Dr. Jovita P. Ayson, held a program opening its doors to the celebration of the National Nutrition Month 2013. The program began with the opening message of Director Jovita Ayson, in which she described BFAR as an inspiration to other agencies. Likewise, she also made clear her pledge for support as well as that of BFAR with the Regional Nutrition Committee as its chair.
Director RhodoraMaestre, the Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of the National Nutrition Council, was also present that day as a sign of strong partnership between BFAR and NNC as agents of good Nutrition.
The said program also had a lecture on the Nutrition Month theme, with BFAR staff Mr. Mikael Maestre as the resource speaker on the matter. Among others, he discussed the details pertaining to the significance of the nutrition month, its motives, the current issue on hunger, the effort needed from the various sectors to help address it, and contributions which one may give in order to make it a great success.

National Nutrition Council R-02, in its aspiration to innovate and improve the nutrition situation of every Barangay in Region-II, conducted a five (5)-day training on the Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) among teams of able trainers of different municipalities in Region II at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City last August 17 to 21.
The trainers were primarily the District/City/Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/C/MNPCs) as well as Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs), Nutritionist-Dietitians (ND), and other designate trainers of BNS. The Course Director of training was NPC Rhodora G. Maestre and trainers/ facilitators were Ms. Henedina Cabrera – Nutrition Officer III- PHO Isabela, Ms. Luningning Rhodes- Nutrition Officer III- PHO Quirino ,Ms. Amalia Calubaquib- Nutritionist Dietician III- CHO Tuguegarao and Ms. Nareta Maximo- Nurse IV-CHO Cauayan
The training course consists of six (6) modules designed to assist the trainees in training BNSs to have a common basic knowledge and skills as well as core values and traits that are necessary for the BNSs to perform their roles and functions effectively.

The National Nutrition Council Region 02, hand in hand with the City of Tuguegarao with support from the Rotary Rainbow of Tuguegarao recently conducted the “Kalesa Painting Contest 2013” as a celebratory activity for the Nutrition Month.
The said activity involved the secondary schools, colleges, and universities in the City through their students and coaches; where each participating school were given kalesas to paint nutrition-related messages on - These nutrition-related messages involved the Revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos 2012.
The painting portion of the contest formally began on Monday, July 8, 2013 and lasted until the morning of Wednesday, July 10, 2013. After painting, the kalesas were arranged and were judged, and were subsequently bared to the public during a kalesacade around the poblacion of the city, also held on that day.
The results of the contest will be announced in a culminating activity to be held at the end of the month of July.

CAGAYAN – Lactating mothers joined the synchronized breastfeeding held at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of the towns and the city as one of the highlights of the Nutrition Month observation this July.
Dr. Carlos Cortina, nutrition action officer, said the breastfeeding activity aims to promote exclusive breastfeeding to address malnutrition among infants.
The barangay health teams particularly the barangay nutrition scholars were mobilized to bring the breastfeeding moms to their RHUs to join in the synchronized breastfeeding this morning.
Some of the chief executives of the towns also witnessed the activity including their Municipal Health Officers and other officials.
Alcala Mayor Criselda Antonio inspired the mothers to serve as advocates of exclusive breastfeeding to ensure good health and nutrition of their kids.
“The breast milk is really the best for babies," the mayor said. "No other alternative because of the needed nutrition of a baby is complete in the breast milk and it has been proven that breastfed babies are active, energetic, intelligent and not sickly.”
She also distributed some baby wipes and diapers to for the babies during the activity. In other areas, the breastfeeding advocates also conducted some lectures on breastfeeding and child rearing to the mothers.
