Radyo Kalugaran 97.7 MHz FM in Claveria, boasts the honor of being the sole member among the Nutriskwela Radio broadcasting stations to hold programs by kids for nutrition i.e. Batang Radyo Sa Nutrisyon Claveria. According to Nutrition Program Coordinator for Region 02 Director Rhodora G. Maestre, the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon is “the first of its kind” in the country. “A program by kids, for kids and nutrition.” She added.
The Batang Radyo for Claveria is the fourth instalment of the five Batang Radyo centers in Region 02, the first being Santiago, Tuguegarao, and Lal-lo; the last being in Cauayan City, Isabela.
Radyo Kalugaran 97.7 MHz FM is one of several stations that are part of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Project. It (Radyo Kalugaran) was established last 2010 to allow for training of broadcast personnel and enhance media accessibility, and primarily to address high prevalence of malnutrition in the area.

Looking back, the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station in the municipality of Claveria came like a precious gift that should be treasured for a life time. Pondering on its main purpose to “provide people’s access to accurate and balanced information and to provide them a forum for sharing information among community members,” DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran (that’s the name of our station) keeps to do its role to the community through credible broadcasting every passing of the year.
DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran starts it broadcasting activity at 5:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening. It has 5 regular employees who are responsible of its day to day operation.
For almost two years now of conquering the air lanes spreading news and information “to improve the nutritional status of the community people by arming them with correct, up-to-date messages on nutrition and by providing them access to other educational and development information, DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran is trying its best to improve every aspect of its department for the welfare of its listening public.

The National Nutrition Council Region 02 technical group, led by Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre; as well as the representatives of the local media had their meet-up at Baguio City, in order to discuss the Local Media Placement Program Implementation Review for the year 2012 as well as a Planning and Workshop for the year 2013 last January 9-11, 2013.
The 3-day workshop took place with priorities leaning toward the identification of the accomplishments of the NNCR02-Media tandem and subsequent planning to provide for improvements and additions to the already-airing programs over at the various stations in the Region.
The workshop also served as an avenue to build new linkages and networks with other members of the media to widen the reach of Nutritional Information Dissemination.

Festive mood, elated emotions, loud claps and hurrays capped the Joint Regional and City Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on December 18, 2012 at the Santiago Mission Church, Brgy. Plaridel, Santiago City.
The annual nutrition awarding is held to pay tribute and honour the Local Government Units and community based frontline workers with exemplary performance in the implementation of local nutrition programs.
Batanes Province and Santiago City, Isabela are both Nutrition Honor Awardees (NHA), the highest national award in the exemplary and outstanding performance of the LGUs after six years of implementing programs and projects on nutrition geared towards the eradication of malnutrition and institutionalization of programs to ensure good health and nutrition in the communities.
Lallo, Cagayan and Quirino province are also both Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) awardees while Victoria Gabbac of Dagupan, San Mateo, Isabela is the 6th placer for Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (OBNS) nationwide.
For the outstanding province, Quirino garnered the Green Banner Award and was automatically elevated into Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN).
The municipality of Sta Fe, Nueva Vizcaya successfully garnered the first place in the outstanding municipality category, followed by Sabtang, Batanes and Penablanca, Cagayan as the third place winner.
Cauayan City was proclaimed as outstanding city.
Rhodora G. Maestre, Nutrition Program Coordinator, said the awards conferred to the Local Government Units of region 2 are manifestation of the serious commitment of the local officials and their partners towards eradication of malnutrition and institutionalization of programs to further people’s good nutrition.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the response messages given by Ms. Ma. Victoria Gabbac, Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar in the Region, by Honorable Teodorico P. Padilla, Jr., Mayor and MNC Chair of Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, and Honorable Amelita S. Navarro, Mayor and CNC Chair of Santiago,
Ms. Michelle R. Navarro, Breastfeeding Advocate also shared her success story in breastfeeding her kids and being a BREASTFRIEND to her community.
Certificate of Appreciation was also given to NGA’s, NGO’s, LGU’s and Market Places for establishing Lactation Station in their workplace and health facilities in compliance with R.A. 10028.

Members of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and MQ mediazone production oriented its core staff of the soon-to-be launched 1st nutriskwela community radio station in the province.
The nutriskwela community radio station is part of the award of Batanes for having achieved the 2011 National Honor Award from the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
The P500,000 award was received last November 9 by Gov. Vicente S. Gato and Dr. Roel Nicolas, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) concurrent provincial health officer II.
The equipment for the nutriskwela radio station is expected to arrive in Batanes this month.
The provincial government and the provincial nutrition council (PNC) attended the orientation conducted by NNC to the five core staff: the manager, technician, program manager, announcer and writer.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) region 2 has gathered some media practitioners all over Cagayan Valley Region in Baguio City to help them widen the awareness campaign and advocacies on nutrition.
Rhodora G. Maestre, nutrition program coordinator during the three-day workshop said, media has been a vital tool of the council to reach out the public to promote good nutrition as the government is struggling to achieve Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Number 1 which is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
Representatives of media entities from different stations and outlets presented their programs and commitments to promote good nutrition in the region for 2013.
“We will tap all means of medium to communicate to the public programs and information to achieve good nutrition and health of the communities because a healthy society is a vehicle towards a developed country,” Maestre said.
