Bulacan 1The National Nutrition Council-Region III recognized the 2014 outstanding local government units and Barangay Nutrition Scholars for their exemplary performance in nutrition program management and service delivery during the 2015 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on 4 September 2015 at the Heroes Hall, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Since the 1980s, the National Nutrition Council has recognized provinces, cities and municipalities that have shown outstanding performance in local nutrition program management. They were given awards such as the Green Banner, Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) and the Nutrition Honor Award (NHA), given at the national level to LGUs that have maintained their CROWN awards for 3 consecutive years.

2013 bns totIn support on the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) program, the National Nutrition Council Region III held its Training of Trainers on the Basic Course for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars last October 21-25, 2013 at the Prime Asia Hotel, Angeles City. The activity seeks not just to describe the nutrition program management at the barangay level but also to point out the importance of BNSs in the framework of nutrition program management. Through the training, participants will be able to direct and supervise BNSs in their respective area for they are one of the significant people in the promotion of good nutrition.

The training were attended by the different District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators, Provincial/ City/ Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Nutritionist-Dieticians, Nutrition Officers and other technical staff assigned to train the BNSes in each area. Ms. Maria - Kareena Dumpit, City Nutrition Program Coordinator of City of San Fernando, Ms. Ana Bella Laborera, District Nutrition Program Coordinator of Nueva Ecija Province and Ms. Rose Anne Cuyco, Nutrition officer II of NNC Region III were the resource persons (RP’s) and have facilitated the said activity.

pledgeThe National Nutrition Council Region III took a big leap in collaborating with Local Media Partners in the promotion of health and nutrition. Through the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of Region III, NPC Rhodora G. Maestre, NNC Central Luzon was able to tap on media personalities and organizations who are willing to be in action to support Nutrition for all. The extraordinary event highlighted the induction of officers of the Central Luzon Media Group. It was held at Holiday Inn, Clarkfield, Pampanga, evening of September 10, 2013.

Inspired by the achievements of Mr. Ding Fugaban of NNC Region II Local Media Group, “Balay ni Ifan”, experienced broadcaster and Pampanga Press Club President Mr. Perry Pangan initiated the organization and pledge of commitment of the different Local Media Partners and Information Officers envisioned to aid NNC Region III in the facilitation of different programs regarding nutrition.

regional launchingThe National Nutrition Council Region III launched the simple celebration last July 1, 2013 at the DOH-CHD3 Compound Regional Government Center, Maimpis, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. This was held during the Unified Flag Raising Ceremony, being done every first Monday of the month. Around 681 employees representing various government agencies were in attendance. The welcome and opening message was delivered by Director Leonita P. Gorgolon, of DOH-CHD 3. She shared with the audience the current programs and priorities of the CHD particularly along preventive health and nutrition. Director Eliza D. Salon Regional Director-DBM and current President of Central Luzon Association of Regional Officers (CLARO ) emphasized the importance not only of the Nutrition Month Celebration but also encouraged everyone to observe and walk the tenets of good nutrition. ARD Chris Bautista of DA-RFU 3 shared their major contribution in line with the Nutrition Month theme and that is along conservation of staple food especially rice as well as the use of rice substitutes. He also announced 2013 as the “National Year of Rice”.

promotionThe National Nutrition Council Central Luzon detained the launching of the revised 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) to ensure its fastest and widest dissemination. The NNC Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos planning workshop aims to equip the Local Government Units, the Regional Nutrition Committee and the media to formulate plans on the improvement of the nutritional status through the promotion of NGF.

Through joined effort of the Local Government Units, Regional Nutrition Committee and the Media around Central Luzon, information dissemination would be faster covering a wider scale for the promotion of NGF aiming for nutrition and health oriented community region wide.

NM-talking-pointsRight after the Unified Flag Raising Ceremony cum Regional Nutrition Month Launching, some Central Luzon Association of Regional Officers (CLARO) members and staff representatives attended the traditional CLARO Breakfast Meeting being sponsored by National Nutrition Council Central Luzon every July each year.

Central Luzon Association of Regional Officers President and Department of Budget and Management Regional Director Eliza B. Salon presided the meeting. After the brief preliminaries and announcements, Nutrition Program Coordinator Victoria N. Mañez presented the Nutrition Month Talking Points which highlighted on this year’s theme “Gutom at Malnutrisyon , sama-sama nating wakasan”.
