The contest was held at DOH- Center for Health Development Regional Office 3 Covered Court. The activity was well-attended by guests, judges and contestants with their team leaders/nutrition program coordinators.
The opening program was graced by Assistant Regional Director Edna Abcede, ARD of CHD Region III representing Regional Director Leonita Gorgolon. She expressed her deep appreciation of the theme related to the contest because she believed that Kapampangans are good in cooking delicious dishes. This time, the contest highlights the importance of vegetables as one of the nutritious foods especially for young children. Considering that many of these young children are thin while others are obese, it is high time to promote intensively the consumption of vegetables, presented in aesthetic manner. “Hitsura pa lang, dapat ay katakam-takam na’’. She hoped that winning recipes will not only be recognized in the region but also be applied at the households to serve its purpose.
NPC Magpantay explained the background of the contest highlighting that the winning recipes of the Region 3 together with the other regions nationwide will be compiled into a recipe book to be printed and launched during the Nutrition Month in July. The recipe book will be designed to develop low-cost, easy to prepare, nutritious vegetable dishes. This will provide a venue to showcase each region’s traditional recipes and varied ways of cooking vegetables.

NNC convened the Regional Nutrition Committee for its 2nd quarter meeting for 2012 on 29 June 2012 at DOH-CHD 3 Conference Room. The main agenda of the meeting were to discuss the launching of 2012 Nutrition Month Celebration, updates on MELLPI and turnover of RNC Chairmanship.
Director Andrew B. Villacorta outgoing RNC Chair and Regional Director of Department of Agriculture Region III presided over the meeting. NPC Maria Vicenta C. Magpantay introduced the incoming Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Victoria N. Mañez as her replacement effective July 1, 2012. RNPC Mañez has served as RNPC at NNC Region I for almost 15 years. NPC Manez was invited to attend the meeting to introduce her to the RNC and to orient her on the current and forthcoming activities of the region.
NPC Magpantay explained the 2012 Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme “Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain!’’. She shared that the launching will be held on July 2 during the unified flag ceremony to be hosted by NNC at the DOH-CHD 3 compound. In coordination with PIA, a press conference could be held at the CHD Conference Room after the flag ceremony. NPC Magpantay also presented the draft programme for launching of Nutrition Month Celebration involving the RNC members. The members of the RNC who were present during the meeting committed to bring respective veggie dishes for the breakfast gathering of regional directors. RNC Chair and DA Regional Director, Dr. Andrew Villacorta requested to serve the winning recipes of the recently conducted Regional Recipe Development Contest during the breakfast meeting. He also committed DA to reimburse the expenses of preparing recipes to the winning recipes. He further committed to bring sample red rice and corn-rice, which DA Region III is promoting for consumption.

In the Promotion of Good Nutrition, National Nutrition Council Central Luzon takes up another notch in the advocacy of the 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) utilizing the common public utility vehicle, the tricycle or three-wheeler as a medium. It has chosen another 6 cities in addition to the first 5 cities each given 100 pieces of NGF tarpaulin streamers last year. Through this massive information drive, the promotion of NGF will be highly disseminated throughout Central Luzon.
In each area, a simple program which commences with the discussion of the 10 NGF culminates with the tricycle drivers signing a pledge of commitment that will oblige them to responsibly post the NGF tarpaulin streamers at the back of their tricycles from August 2014 onwards.
For this year, the initial area covered for the turn-over of the NGF tarpaulins took place at Malolos City las August 7, 2014. The City Nutrition Committee headed by City Administrator Rizaldy Mendoza and City Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Evangeline Paguntalan graced the event. Malolos City recognized the aim and importance of the activity hence City Administrator Mendoza has committed to provide more NGF tarpaulins around the city.

The National Nutrition Council Region III and ASLAG Kapampangan Artist Guild collaborated together with the desire to inform and enjoin the public about the newly-launched Nutri-Jingle of Region III regarding the 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos. The contest was organized with the goal of spreading information in a fun and creative manner for the youth eventually for lifestyle and behavioral change. It also taps the public’s awareness that there are government programs that address hunger and malnutrition, especially among children.
Aslag Kapampangan staged a song, dance and video making contest targeting the school children of Pamapanga elementary, highschool and college for the promotion of good Nutrition through the 10 NGF. The event was held at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga last November 8, 2013, 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

City of San Fernando – The National Nutrition Council Region III held its 2nd round of Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Forum on August 22, 2014 at the Conference Hall, DOH-Regional Health Office III. A total of 88 participants attended the NiE Forum. This consists of delegates and representatives from the different partner agencies as well as the Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) and City/Municiapl Nutrition Committee (C/MNC) members from the City of San Fernando, Mabalacat City, Angeles City, Tarlac City, Municipalitites of Pampanga (Guagua, Lubao, Sasmuan, Bacolor, San Simon, Mexico, Candaba, Apalit, Porac), Bulacan (Calumpit, Paombong) and Provincial Nutrition action Officer (PNAO) of Zambales Province.
The activity is aimed at creating or enhancing awareness among the participants on the fundamentals of nutrition in emergencies management, to give an overview on disaster risk reduction and management with a special focus on cluster approach and presentation of the preparedness and response strategies of the government and non-government sector on nutrition in times of calamities.

The orientation on Community Mobilization for IYCF Program was conducted by the National Nutrition Council Region III at the New Rajah Soliman, Baguio City last November 12 to 15, 2013. The activity was attended by the different municipalities of Aurora Province namely Baler, Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan, Dingalan, Maria Aurora, San Luis and Provincial DNPCs and staff of Aurora. The activity aims to inform the midwives and the other designated persons at the barangay about the steps on how to mobilize community support groups for the implementation and expansion of the IYCF program.
IYCF Coordinator from Naga City and City Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Raquel A. Buere was the guest facilitator for the activity. She equipped the participants with the 8 steps on how to mobilize peer councilors and helpful tips for the promotion and fast spread of IYCF practices down the barangay level. After learning about different steps and techniques on IYCF counselling, the participants went to Quirino Hill Health Center, an upland barangay in the city for their much awaited practicum. They counselled breastfeeding mothers and were able to impart their new learned knowledge on infant and young child feeding. They were able to interact, educate and respond to the mothers on how to properly give proper nutrition to their children using the IYCF counselling cards.
