One of the global public health days designated by WHO is World Patient Safety Day. The 72nd World Health Assembly created it in 2019 with the passage of resolution WHA72.6, "Global action on patient safety." Its goals are to raise public awareness and involvement, improve understanding on a worldwide scale, and promote international cooperation and member-state action to improve patient safety and lessen patient damage.
One of the biggest causes of preventable injury in the medical field worldwide is unsafe pharmaceutical practices and prescription errors. Medication errors happen when human variables, such as weariness, unfavorable environmental conditions, or personnel shortages, affect how safely a medication is administered. Serious patient injury, disability, and even death may ensue from this. The likelihood of medication errors and the associated medication-related harm have been markedly increased by the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic. In light of this, "Medication Safety" with the tagline "Medication Without Harm" has been chosen as the theme for World Patient Safety Day in 2022.

People may use the natural medicine St. John's wort to ease the symptoms of depression. It might also be helpful for treating some skin disorders and menopause symptoms, but further research is required to confirm these effects. According to Yvette Brazier of Medical News Today, people frequently utilize St. John's wort, derived from a flowering plant known as Hypericum perforatum, as a component of alternative medicine to treat melancholy, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD). It is derived from a flowering plant known as Hypericum perforatum. Additionally, it seems to have antibacterial effects and could have antiviral effects. Hypericin, a substance found in the plant, may be largely responsible for the herb's effectiveness. Flavonoids and hyperforin, among other components, may be important. Though the exact mechanism is unknown, study by Bahtya Peterson and colleagues suggested that the plant may have antidepressant-like effects by making more dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine available in the brain.

Cancers that affect the blood or bone marrow include leukemia and lymphoma. Blood-forming tissue is where leukemia first develops. Stem cells in the bone marrow are the source of the majority of blood cells. The bone marrow produces aberrant white blood cells in leukemia patients (leukemia cells). Leukemia cells, unlike healthy blood cells, do not die as they should. Healthy platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells might be pushed out by them. It is difficult for normal blood cells to function as a result.
