17 March 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – The assessment of the Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) is conducted semi-annually. This is to monitor the collection, analysis, and interpretation of the LNEWS data.
Last 10 March 2022, Talakag, Bukidnon Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Rosa Ma. Theresa L. Nanolan, Household Data Collectors and Nutrition Officer (NO) II Arlie Joy O. Damiles of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) X convened to discuss the 2021 2nd semester monitoring results. The activity was held at the Municipal Audio-Visual Room, Talakag, Bukidnon.
MNAO Nanolan presented the 2021 initial third and fourth quarter monitoring results. She reported that most of the indicators have no or minimal impact. However, the prevalence of stunting in the fourth quarter is in warning alert status at 16.84%.

Ka-Nutrisyon, have you ever heard of the agency, “NNC”?
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) was created in 1974 through Presidential Decree 491 or the “Nutrition Act of the Philippines” as the country’s highest policymaking and coordinating body on nutrition.
The NNC is tasked to execute the following core functions:
- Formulate policies and strategies on food and nutrition;
- Coordinate the management of the national nutrition program through planning, monitoring, and evaluation;
- Coordinate the release of funds, loans, and grants from government organizations and nongovernment organizations; and
- Call on any department, bureau, office, agency and other instrumentalities of the government for assistance in the form of personnel, facilities and resources as the need arises.

24 March 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – Three (3) local government units and two (2) local nutrition focal points (LNFPs) from Region 10 bagged national awards during the 2021 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held in Hilton Manila—the most among all regions in the country.
LGU Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon was conferred with the Nutrition Honor Award, the highest recognition in nutrition given to an LGU. This was achieved after six consecutive years of hard work, dedication, and commitment in planning and implementing scaled-up nutrition efforts. The trophy and cash prize worth ₱1,000,000.00 were received by Municipal Mayor and Nutrition Committee Chairperson Clive D. Quiño and former Nutrition Action Officer Christy Marie V. Alsado.
In his response, Mayor Quiño said, “The awards we received today is a proof of our purposeful and steadfast leadership in nutrition. The challenge is not to only sustain and continuously improve what we currently have, but also to inspire others to make a difference and prioritize nutrition for the future generation.”

25 March 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – The Nutrition Action Officers Association of the Philippines (NAOPA), Inc. – Northern Mindanao (NM) Chapter convened in a face-to-face business meeting last 18 March 2022 at Apple Tree Resort and Hotel.
City Nutrition Action Officer Hazel P. Dondonayos, Chapter Secretary, presided over the meeting on behalf of Chapter President, CNAO Elmer S. Risonar of Gingoog City. Ten (10) other officers and representatives attended the meeting to discuss about the association’s registration to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the financial report as of 15 March 2022, and draft resolution on the conduct of elections.

17 March 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – The Northern Mindanao Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) convened its first semester meeting last 16 March 2022 via Zoom. The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X facilitated the conduct of the meeting, which was presided over by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez. A total of 18 RBATF X members attended the meeting.
Meeting highlights include the presentation of the revised RBATF X Diamond Seal Certification Sticker, 2021 Second Semester Salt Monitoring Results for Iligan City, Schedule of the 1st Semester Salt Monitoring, and Updates on Local Salt Distributors’ Activities.

Every March, the National Women’s Month is celebrated, calling the Juanas to take center stage– standing up for their rights, challenging stereotypes, breaking barriers, and serving as pioneers of change.
The theme: “Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran” is a celebration of women exercising their choices, taking chances to make their voices heard, and benefitting from and trailblazing changes.
Despite the aspiration of women towards gender equality, women appear to be the strong force in the family on top of responding to their children’s needs; this, among others, can take a toll on their nutritional needs. Women usually encounter malnutrition in the form of iron deficiency anemia, calcium deficiency, chronic energy deficiency (CED), overweight and obesity, among others.
The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) reported that the android-type obesity (high Waist-Circumference and high Waist-Hip Ratio) increased among female adults from 18.5% in 2015 to 23.3% in 2018-2019. On the other side, anemia among female adults decreased prevalence from 12.7% in 2018 to 10.6% in 2019.
Proper nutrition is important to all, men and women alike. However, women have a special and greater nutritional needs for an adequate diet. Better nutrition means stronger immune system, fewer incidence of illness and better health.
