Micronutrients are essential to support the body’s important biological processes, and are also needed to prevent serious health problems. Micronutrients include vitamins and minerals, specifically vitamins A, D, E, K, and C as well as the B-complex vitamins— thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folate (B9), and cobalamin (B12). Minerals on the other hand include calcium (Ca), sodium (Na), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and iodine (I).
In the Philippines, micronutrient deficiencies particularly vitamin A, iron, and iodine deficiency are still of public health concern. According to the Micronutrient Supplementation Manual of Operations released by the Department of Health (DOH), micronutrient deficiencies have considerable impact on economic productivity, growth and national development.
Hence, micronutrient supplementation interventions are delivered through the Micronutrient Supplementation Program (MSP). This program is one of the nutrition-specific programs of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, which aims to respond to the micronutrient malnutrition in the country. The program focuses on the provision of pharmaceutically-prepared vitamins and minerals for the treatment and prevention of specific micronutrient deficiencies to complement food intake.
Low birth weight infants, 6-59-month-old children, pregnant women (PW) and lactating women, female adolescents (10-14 years old), and non-pregnant/non-lactating women of reproductive age (15-49 years old) are the population groups prioritized in the MSP. And since the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies is not the same among the various population groups, the intervention package and delivery system is tailored for specific age, population, and socio-economic groups. Below are the interventions given based on specific age and population:

The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 is the country’s blueprint to address the immediate, underlying, and basic causes of malnutrition. It consists of nutrition-specific programs, nutrition-sensitive programs, and enabling programs.
In its Technical Guidance Brief for Effective At-Scale Nutrition Social and Behavior Change Communication, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) acknowledges that all the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition are behavioral– influenced by the behaviors of individuals and their household members. However, the actions of a variety of other actors have an impact on nutrition. These actors range from healthcare providers and schoolteachers to farmers and other agricultural agents, religious and community leaders to private sector companies and policymakers, all of whom have direct or indirect impact on care and feeding practices, household food security, the household environment, and healthcare services.
Enhancing the nutrition behavior of women, caregivers, family and community members, and those who influence them is the goal of the multi-media nutrition campaign, Nutrition Promotion Program for Behavior Change.
The program includes a set of interventions that systematically combines elements of interpersonal communication, social change and community mobilization activities, mass media, and advocacy to support individuals, families, communities and institutions.

NSOA is just like a setting in school where students will enroll, attend the class and will be recognized through a graduation ceremony. In NSOA, Graduation Ceremony will be held to recognize the participants who tuned in and actively participated in the short quizzes after each episode.
This is one of the strategies of NNC to educate and create an interactive environment with people as they are taught on proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle. (NO I Vazamija Therese A. Villasi)

The Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 aims to address the country's malnutrition problems among children and other population groups.
Under the PPAN 2017-2022, eight (8) nutrition-specific interventions have been identified to address the immediate causes of malnutrition, physical inactivity, poor dietary intake, and diseases. The National Dietary Supplementation Program (NDSP) is one of the identified interventions. The program's primary priority is to supplement the dietary concern of nutritionally vulnerable groups, such as pregnant and lactating women, and infants and young children aged 6-23 months in food insecure households. The program also covers the undernourished children aged 3 to 5 years, and severely wasted Kinder to Grade 6 school children, particularly those from very poor neighborhoods and/or households.
In detail, five projects that fall under this program are as follows:
Project 1: Pregnant and lactating women's Dietary Supplementation Program;
Project 2: Infant and Young Child Dietary Supplementation Program (ages 6-23 months);
Project 3: Dietary Supplementation Program for Children Aged 24-59 months (those enrolled in day care facilities and CDCs, as well as in SNP groups);
Project 4: School-Age Children's Dietary Supplementation Program; and
Project 5: Food processing and manufacturing facilities for the production of food supplements (supplementary/complementary foods) and single micronutrient fortification of rice and other foods.
