22 January 2019, Cagayan de Oro City - On November 29, 2018, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11148- Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act─ an Act Scaling up the National and Local Health and Nutrition Programs through a Strengthened Integrated Strategy for Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health and Nutrition during the First 1,000 Days of Life.
Also considered as the “golden window of opportunity”, the First 1000 Days of life starts from the first day of conception until the child’s 2nd birthday. It is in this period that appropriate health and nutrition interventions should be given so the child can reach optimum growth and development, which can even help the child grow as healthy and productive adult. Moreover, malnutrition during this period can have irreversible or long-term consequences. Thus, the quality of nutrition during the First 1000 Days can have a significant impact on the achievement of national and global development goals.

From being one of the most nutritionally depressed provinces in the country in 2015 to Outstanding Province in the Region for three (3) consecutive years, Misamis Occidental is a success story that still has many better chapters to offer.
The Provincial Nutrition Committee led by Governor Herminia M. Ramiro together with the Provincial Nutrition Action Office fronted by PNAO Marichu G. Tijing and cooperation of the municipalities and the barangays, serves as well-equipped vanguard against malnutrition, specifically for the infant and young children, pregnant and lactating women and elderly.

To foster Barangay Nutrition Scholars’ heroism the National Nutrition Council Region 10 in cooperation with the Northern Mindanao Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars spearheaded the 2018 BNS Regional Conference last September 19-20, 2018.
Anchored on gallant theme: “BNS Bayani ng Nutrisyon: Noon, Ngayon at Bukas” the 4th Regional BNS Conference gathered a record-breaking 1,700 participating barangay nutrition scholars representing five (5) provinces and nine (9) cities in Northern Mindanao.
The conference marked the 40th year since the promulgation of PD 1569– the law establishing the BNS program in the country.

29 November 2018, CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- THE best local government units and nutrition workers in Northern Mindanao were awarded for their exemplary performance in nutrition program management and delivery of nutrition services during the 2018 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony last November 27, 2018 at Cove Garden Resort, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.
More than 250 VIPs, awardees and guests from all over Northern Mindanao participated in this year's recognition rites.
The awards that were given are based from the findings and results from the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) conducted by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-Region 10. The MELLPI aims to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of local government units in planning and implementing local nutrition programs.

29 August 2018- The Breastfeeding Angels were gathered again for their 2nd Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Forum and General Assembly held at Ozamiz City Gymnasium. The Breastfeeding Angels were organized, first congregated in the year 2012 and federated in the year 2016. For several years, the ANGELS acted as A-dvocator, N-eutralizer, G-enerator, E-ducator and L-eader.
This year’s event theme: Breastfeeding WOW (Working Out Well) in Ozamiz!: A Date with Breastfeeding Angels”, was spearheaded by the City Nutrition Office led by CNAO Lelita G. Navarez and attended by more than 500 Breastfeeding Angels, CNC, BNC, media partners and other stakeholders. The forum is in line with the celebration of the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month with the theme: “Pagpapasuso’y Pundasyon para sa Malusog at Mahabang Buhay ng Ina at Sanggol”, a strategy in order to keep the Breastfeeding Angels updated with the current IYCF issues and relevant information while building their camaraderie.

26 October 2018 – Cagayan de Oro City. NNC X conducted the 2018 Search for Best Gulayan sa Tugkaran to identify model home gardens in Region 10. The contest aims to produce success stories on food gardening to inspire other families in the region to undertake gardening.
The contest was held in line with the 2018 Nutrition Month theme: “Ugaliing magtanim, sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!”. All 14 provinces and cities in the region were enjoined to submit one (1) entry in coordination with the local nutrition office.
