BNSs at the Pantawid Pamilya Convergence help with the information disseminationCebu City – Despite hectic schedules, staff shortage, and bad weather the National Nutrition Council Region 7 managed to show the agency’s support to the Department of Social Welfare and Development 7’s Pantawid Pamilya Convergence Caravan on 26 August 2015 in the municipality of San Francisco, part of the Camotes Islands of Cebu province.

Represented by NO III Susan Y. Orpilla and BNS Coordinator Lucia C. Arellano, NNC 7 provided the 300 caravan beneficiaries with the nutrition information. The NNC 7 team was assisted by the barangay nutrition scholars of San Francisco and the neighboring town of Poro led by their respective BNS Federation Presidents, Mr. Dennis M. Estrera and Ms. Fe D. Venzal.

Equipped with nutrition IEC materials such as the 10 Kumainments fans, posters and counseling cards, NO III Orpilla and the local barangay nutrition scholars teach Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries about good nutrition practices.

The event which was jointly sponsored by DSWD 7 and LGU San Francisco aimed at bringing government services to the Pantawid members and increase their familiarity with these services. The regional offices of DA, DAR, DILG, DTI, DOH, DOLE, DOST, PopCom and TESDA also provided relevant services.//NGS

IQA team review NNC7 filesCebu City – Aspiring to enhance the operations of the regional office, NNC 7 Nutrition Program Coordinator, Dr. Parolita A. Mission together with NNC 7 staff underwent a three (3) day Internal Quality Audit last 09 to 11 June 2014. Members of the auditing team from NNC Central Office were NO IV Ms. Marilou R. Enteria of NIED together with Administrative Officer Mr. Serapio D. Camarines, Jr. and Administrative Assistant III Ms. Lorna L. Rodriguez.

A quality management system is a set of policies, processes and procedures required for planning and execution[1] that focuses on achieving an organization’s policy and objectives. In NNC’s case as the highest policy making body on nutrition, committed to ensure improved access to quality nutrition and related interventions through formulation and coordination of policies and programs with excellence, integrity and transparency.

Major Webby Awards NNC 7 garneredManila, Philippines – The National Nutrition Council Region 7 led by NPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission bagged three awards out of the four awards given during the recently held National Nutrition Council Webby Awards last 30 June 2014. NNC 7 won the 2013 NNC Webby Awards for Most Interactive Webpage and Social Media Account, 2013 NNC Webby Awards for Most Syndicated Webpage and Social Media Account and 2013 NNC Webby Awards for the Best Webpage and Social Media Account.

Pabasa sa Nutrisyon is one of Bohols institutionalized nutrition interventionCebu City – Eleven (11) municipalities from Bohol province will be receiving Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) awards from the Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) this coming 18 July 2014 during the PAN, Inc. 67th Annual Convention that will be held at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.

To receive the PSN Outstanding Award are the municipalities of Alicia, Batuan, Lila, Mabini, Pilar, Sierra Bullones and Trinidad. Receiving the PSN Exemplary Award are the municipalities of Balilihan, Carmen, Duero. To receive the PSN Hall of Fame Award is the municipality of Jagna, Bohol.

These 11 LGUs will add to the roster of Pabasa awardees of Region VII which include: La Libertad and Bayawan City in Negros Oriental; San Francisco, Camotes, Danao City and Cebu City in Cebu.

Cebu City – “Lihok Juan Alang sa Kalambuan”, the new radio show produced by the National Nutrition Council VII (NNC 7) and the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7) together with the Cebu Eastern College – College of Development Communication (CEC DevCom) is the newest effort in continuing the promotion of good nutrition to the public.

Focusing on nutrition-related topics, the one-hour radio show will be aired over at DYLA 909 khz every Saturday at 8am to 9am. MIND 7 President and DYLA Manager Mr. Jun P. Tagalog was instrumental in making the radio show a reality and in offering free-airtime. He will also serve as anchor for the radio show.

Topics for the show will be formulated by the CEC DevCom students with the guidance of CEC DevCom Dean, Ms. Ruth G. Mercado, who is also NNC 7’s Media Consultant. NNC 7’s Media Bureau members will serve as resource persons for the radio show and will be sharing their knowledge and technical expertise to the listening public.

National Bantay Asin Task Force check Cebu Salt PlantsCebu City – The Technical Working Group of the National Salt Iodization Program (TWG – NSIP) held its 4th Regular meeting last 18 to 19 June 2014 at the Crown Regency Hotel and Towers, Cebu City. Aside from the meeting proper, the team also conducted field visits to salt plants in the area, salt cooperatives, public markets, sari-sari stores, food service establishments, health centers, bakery and households.

NNC 7 provided support to the group, who conducted salt testing in the different areas where iodized salt was being produced, sold and used. NO II Nasudi G. Soluta went with Group 1 and visited the Arvin Corporation salt plant, the Brgy. Kasambagan Talipapa and Barrio Luz Market, Barangay Kasambagan Health Center and selected households; meanwhile, NO I Norre V. De Los Santos went with Group 2 and visited Artemis Salt Plant, Mabolo Public Market, Barangay Mabolo Health Center and selected households. The 2 (two) teams interviewed key persons and conducted salt testing using the WYD Kit.
