NNC 7 LCEs

Cebu City – Recognizing the significant roles of the local chief executives in the success of the nutrition program, the National Nutrition Council Region VII through RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission conducts advocacy visits to newly-elected Governors and Mayors in the region.

The activity is a strategy of NNC 7 to help the newly elected officials navigate the nutrition program, explain to them why the need to invest in nutrition and advocate for the strengthening of the nutrition program by establishing nutrition offices with appropriate staff complement, hiring of full-time nutrition action officers and formulation of a nutrition action plan which shall be integrated in the local development plan, annual investment program and his/her executive legislative agenda.

Cebu City - 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. However, safe drinking water is not a privilege every single one of us gets to enjoy. “Safe and readily available water is important for public health, whether it is used for drinking, domestic use, food production, or recreational purposes. Improved water supply and sanitation, and better management of water resources, can boost countries’ economic growth and can contribute greatly to poverty reduction.” (WHO, March 2022).

MIND 7 meeting

Cebu City – NNC 7 expressed the agency’s gratitude anew to the officers and members of the Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development 7 (MIND 7) for their active participation in the media campaign for the 48th Nutrition Month celebration in Central Visayas. The message of thanks was relayed personally by RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission during the 2nd MIND 7 meeting s 2022 held on 26 August 2022 at the Yello Hotel Lahug, Cebu City.

The meeting also tackled the 2022 Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Campaign Status, Assessment of the 48th Nutrition Month Media Accomplishment, Social Media Campaign Updates, and the upcoming twin events, the 2022 Grand Nutrition Awards and 17th Regional Congress of NAOs.

NSOA Culmination

Cebu City – Wrapping up the second season of Idol ko si Nanay Nutrition School On-Air, the National Nutrition Council Region VII facilitated the virtual graduation ceremony on 22 August 2022.

Thirty-four (34) official graduates were presented during the online graduation rites. NNC 7’s Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission officially confirmed the graduates who virtually received their certificates of completion. Aside from the certificates, all graduates also received cash tokens and load allowances.

NNC 7 also awarded the outstanding performers of the second batch who consistently excelled and participated throughout the session. The awardees received certificates of recognition and additional cash incentives to recognize their laudable performance during classes and quizzes.

BNS basic course Valencia

Valencia, Negros Oriental - The local government of Valencia under the administration of Mayor Edgar Z. Teves, Jr. conducted the 2-day Training on the Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS). A total of 25 BNSs completed the course held on 28-29 July 2022 at Conference Room, Birthing Home and Rural Health Unit of Valencia, Negros Oriental. The capability building activity was made possible through the efforts of the Municipal Health Unit headed by Dr. Cheryl Luz Navarro- Eullaran, Municipal Health Officer/Municipal Nutrition Action Officer.

The first day of the course started with an opening program through an opening prayer and singing of the Philippine National Anthem. This was followed by the introduction of the participants and guests. Dr. Eullaran gave a welcome remark to the participants and motivated them to be more active in the programs pertaining to health and nutrition. After which the participants introduced themselves to get to know each other and leveling of expectations ensued. ND II Nina Estela Lindsay Romero of DOH CV CHD/NNC  7 facilitated the organization of host team and gave an overview of the training course. The Guidelines in conducting training and the Supervision and Monitoring of BNS were presented while the participants were having their nutrition snacks.

Mabinay Contest

Mabinay, Negros Oriental – The local government of this cave capital of the country showed that the pandemic will not hinder them to continue in advocating for good nutrition for the betterment of the people of their locality.  This was showcased by the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Barras as they pursued the conduct of the Zumba Dance Contest, Cooking Contest, and Pinaka Contest in time for the recently concluded Nutrition Month celebration.
