Cebu City - In part one (https://tinyurl.com/yckvxzkd) a BS Math intern shared what she knows about the National Nutrition Council and her experiences with NNC 7 during her exposure to the agency’s way of functioning as a government organization.

When another intern of the same course, Mr. Jay-ar Gregorio, was asked the same question if he had heard of NNC before his internship, he responded: "As the highest coordinating body on nutrition, it is inevitable to haven't heard of the National Nutrition Council. But honestly speaking, I didn't know it was NNC until I entered the agency as an intern. The first time I have heard of NNC was when Sir Gab, an acquaintance of mine, did his internship in NNC and soon landed a job in NNC.

Leptin and Ghrelin

Cebu City - The human body is composed of various hormones and each of them has a unique function in every bodily process. Hormones are the chemical messengers in our body sending signals into the different tissues in our system and in the bloodstream. Basically, hormones are essential in life and in health.

Leptin and ghrelin are both referred as “hunger hormones” because they affect the appetite of an individual. Leptin is considered as the “appetite suppressor”. This hormone plays a big role in energy balance. Leptin will help in giving signal to the brain that the body has enough energy stores. Leptin is made by fat cells, in general, the more body fat an individual has, the higher the level of leptin in the body.

Cebu City The National Nutrition Council Region VII once again invites netizens and its followers for its monthly educational offering every third Thursday of the month dubbed Educational Health and Nutrition Information-Sharing Geared Towards Development or e-HISGOT.

“Hisgot” is a Cebuano-bisaya action word that translates to ~ discuss or ~ talk about anything at any length about something of one’s interest. Hence, the National Nutrition Council Region VII has inventively made an amplification of the term HISGOT of which has created the Facebook Live Program that involves the public in informing what are the facts and best practices towards nutrition.

IYCF NiEM

Negros Province - The National Nutrition Council Region VII reminds local governments of the national policy on the management of nutrition in emergencies as it emphasizes the provision of the minimum service package for nutrition. One of these packages is the Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E).

IYCF-E is concerned with the protection and support of safe feeding practices for infants and young children in all types of emergencies. All efforts shall be exerted to promote exclusive breastfeeding of children below six months as well as for the provision of appropriate and timely complementary food to children aged six months onwards with continued breastfeeding.

The agency reiterates the following activities must be part of the early, intermediate, and extended phases of emergency:

Cebu City – Central Visayas Center for Health Development cand the National Nutrition Council Region VII welcomed the 33 new Information Management Officers as they attended the 5-day training on Nutrition in Emergencies Management and Information Management.

The training held on 18-22 July 2022 was organized by Dr. Shelbay B. Blanco Chief of Regional Health and Emergency Division and Mr. Fredric Carl L. Te Nutritionist-Dietitian IV of Central Visayas with NNC 7 as part of the resource persons. The 33 participants came from the local nutrition clusters, disaster risk reduction management council and/or local nutrition offices of Bohol, Cebu and Siquijor.
