Cebu City – The National Nutrition Council Region VII participated in the second and third quarter meeting of the Regional Implementation Team (RIT) VII of the RPRH Law (R.A. 10354) called upon by the Commission on Population and Development Region VII as secretariat of the said body. The meeting took place on 11 August 2022 at a conference room of the Applied Nutrition Center (ANC) in Banilad, Cebu City. The meeting was attended by 36 participants from government agencies and representatives from the different NGOs.

Pinamungajan, Cebu - The local municipal nutrition committee held a local MNC meeting to formulate their 3-year local nutrition action plan for year 2023-2025. The meeting under the direction of the newly elected Mayor and MNC Chair Hon. Ana Jessica A. Baricuatro joined the meeting that took place in the Rural Health Unit conference room and was facilitated by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Melochie R. Daroy-Pausal.

Cebu City – NNC 7 regularly updates the members of the DOH Regional Implementation & Coordination Team members during its semi-annual meetings. During the 1st semester meeting held on 19 July 2022 at Alpa City Suites, Mandaue City, RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission shared the 48th Nutrition Month celebration, 2022 MELLPI Pro. OPT Plus, Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program and Nutrition Cluster updates.
The 1st RICT meeting s 2022 was attended by about 100 participants both on and offline. Attendees included the Chief of DOH-retained hospitals and Provincial Hospitals in CV, DOH-attached agencies including NNC, PHIC, and BoQ, other agencies such as NCIP, DSWD, DepEd, DILG, and USAID, Provincial and city health officers, AMHOP Presidents from the 4 provinces in the region and members of the DOH CV CHD Execom. The meeting was presided by RD Dr. Jaime S. Bernadas of DOH CV CHD.

Bohol Province - RNPC Dr. Parolita A. Mission visited some of the different local government units of Bohol province. In her visits, she prioritized the newly elected officials in the province. In her rounds with the Local Nutrition Committee Chairs, RNPC Dr. Mission advocated the importance of strengthening the nutrition program by setting up LGU’s own nutrition office with staff complement to orchestrate the implementation of the nutrition program. She also shared evidence-based solutions to addressing malnutrition in the locality, the importance of investing in nutrition and introduced NEOtrition to the newly elected officials.
NEOtrition Guide is a quick guide to navigating nutrition programs for newly elected officials thus the term “NEO” but this tool can also be use by tenured officials who wish to further strengthen their nutrition programs. The guide has 5 steps in order to reap the success of improved local nutrition.

Pinamungajan, Cebu - The Municipality of Pinamungajan, Cebu joins the whole nation in the celebration of 48th Nutrition Month with the theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang gawan ng Solusyon!” They culminated the monthlong observance on 29 July 2022 with Contests including a Well-Baby contest, Best Backyard Gardening, Nutri Quiz, Poster-slogan contest, Cooking contest, Agro-Food fair contest, all of which helped promote and advocate for nutrition specific and sensitive nutrition interventions. It is a tradition of the MNC lead by the Municipal Health Office of Pinamungajan to plan and organize a series of activities that promote and advocate good nutrition in the month-long celebration.
During the culmination event, ND II James Aaron Perez of DOH CVCHD deployed to NNC Region VII was one of the judges. He was joined by DMO Servil Mae V. Villaespin of DOH CVCHD, ND I Shaine Arrah Romarate of Pinamungajan District Hospital, and Municipal Agriculturist Leonida Yongco.

Lazi, Siquijor – NNC 7 thru its HRH for Nutrition revives breastfeeding support groups through the conduct of health talks on the importance of breastfeeding and related topics. One such activity was held on 09 June 2022 for the Breastfeeding Support Group (BFSG) of Nagerong, Lazi, Siquijor. The half day activity was conducted by ND II Karen Abe and was assisted by NDP Ms. Therese Monte. Discussed were the power of First 1000 days of life, countless benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and the risks in giving breastmilk substitutes to the babies, complementary feeding, and proper nutrition.
As the country shifts in living into a new normal, the session was conducted to equip the Support Groups with knowledge and skills in advocating the importance of breastfeeding and care for the infant and young children to help and guide breastfeeding moms in their journey towards a successful breastfeeding anchoring on the support groups varied experiences. The support group members had their own milestones in breastfeeding their babies for 6 months and beyond. They firmly believed that investing in nutrition is essential to children’s physical and cognitive development in ways we can produce healthy and productive adults.
