In an emergency meeting of the Association of Nutrition Action Officers of Metro Manila held on April 14, 2021, the group agreed to request the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to defer the conduct of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro this year due to the increasing COVID-19 cases in the region.
The MELLPI Pro is the monitoring and evaluation mechanism for the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) at the local level, which is the country’s framework for nutrition improvement. The MELLPI is done every year to assess the LGUs’ performance in local nutrition program implementation. This year, the performance of local nutrition focal points will also be assessed.

Ordinances from Malabon and Pasig were selected from among the nutrition and nutrition-related ordinances in the country that will be featured in the National Nutrition Council’s publication of Compendium of Local Ordinances on Nutrition. In this publication, selected 20 local ordinances will be featured from the 17 regions, across various thematic clusters.
Narratives of Malabon City Ordinance No. 06-2020 “An Ordinance Strengthening the Karinderia para sa Kalusugan ni Chikiting at Buntis in the City of Malabon, Institutionalizing its Operating Mechanism and for Other Purposes” and Pasig City Ordinance No. 64 s. 2017 “An Ordinance Mandating all public and private preparatory, elementary and secondary schools to promote healthy food and beverages, prohibiting the sale and/or promotion of all unhealthy food and beverages inside school gate and within 50 meters of the school’s gate and providing penalties for the violation thereof” are both nearing completion.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in NCR (DSWD-NCR) Regional Director Vicente Gregorio B. Tomas together with the members of Regional Program Management Office (RPMO) had a virtual meeting with National Nutrition Council -NCR (NNC-NCR) Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo on April 6, 2020.
The virtual meeting is part of the series of courtesy visits to the Regional Directors of NCR being conducted by the DSWD-NCR RPMO to ensure convergence of programs and services by all national government agencies involved in the implementation of Republic Act 11310 or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) or Pantawid Pamilya. The main objective of the visit is to align the mandate of each agency to their respective roles in the direction of the 4Ps which is to uplift the level of well-being of the beneficiaries through convergence effort of various stakeholders.

In its commitment to continually assist the City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators (C/DNPCs) of Metro Manila Association in their Online IYCF Counseling Project, the National Nutrition Council-NCR (NNC-NCR) conducted a 2-day virtual Refresher Course on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for the NCR Breastfeeding Friends (BFFs) on March 30-31, 2021.
The activity was attended by thirty-three (33) NCR BFFs from the 17 cities and municipality in Metro Manila except Marikina and Quezon City.
The online IYCF counseling project was put up by the Association on April 8, 2020 to help mothers in feeding their infants and young children the right way amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the Association who are registered Nutritionist-Dietitians trained on IYCF call themselves NCR BFFs. They provide free online counseling to mothers/caregivers who are having problems related to breastfeeding and complementary feeding.

Exactly a year ago today, April 8, 2020, the Online IYCF Counseling Project of the City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators (C/DNPC) of Metro Manila Association was launched as part of the campaign in promoting proper infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the assistance from the National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR), the Association established an online counseling for mothers/caregivers who are having problems related to IYCF. This was in response to the overwhelming queries on breastfeeding received through social media, various online posts of mothers asking/requesting formula milk and calls for milk donation that started during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in 2020.
