Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. When you have diabetes, your body either produces insufficient insulin or can’t use it as well as it should. When there isn’t enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin, too much blood sugar stays in your bloodstream. That can eventually lead to more serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease.

It is advised to adhere to "sell-by," "expiration," and "use-by" dates. What do these phrases mean? Though, most food-dating is optional; it represents the manufacturer's best estimate of the product's lifespan.
