According to a study by Martin J. J. Ronis and colleagues, multivitamins are one of the most used supplements in the United States, with approximately one-third of adults currently taking them. According to a survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST), multivitamins and minerals, B-complex vitamins, and vitamin C are the most consumed supplements by Filipinos. People who take multivitamins frequently do so to improve or maintain their health, to protect themselves from nutrient deficiencies, or simply to fill in the odd in nutrient gap in their diet. Multivitamins are available without a prescription, and most people believe they are safe, which may explain their popularity.

Dipolog City, 23 March 2022 -- The National Nutrition Council IX (NNC9) joined the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and UN Children’s Agency UNICEF together with the Zamboanga del Norte (ZamboNorte) Provincial Nutrition Office and Provincial Health Office during their 3-day field monitoring visits in the Province of Zamboanga del Norte and selected pilot areas on March 21-23, 2022. The event aimed at meeting the key stakeholders and discussing ways forward in sustaining and scaling up nutrition gains while monitoring the progress of indicators set for the project.

The Municipality of Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte successfully held their Buntis Congress on March 30, 2022 together with the Launching of the Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program with the theme, "Kalusugan ni Nanay ay Pangalagaan, First 1000 days ni Baby ay Tutukan". The activity serves as the kick-off in the actual implementation of the said program. The event was attended by a total of two hundred ten (210) pregnant women beneficiaries, Nutrition Action Officer, RHU staff, Nutrition Staff, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs).

In celebration of the National Women’s Month, the National Nutrition Council IX (NNC9) successfully conducted a webinar on “Healthy Diet and Lifestyle for Working Women” last March 22, 2022, via Google Meet and FB live. The topic was discussed by Ms. Maria Dolores M. Paredes, the Chief Dietitian of Zamboanga City Medical Center and one of the Board of Directors of the National Nutritionist-Dietitians Association of the Philippines – Zamboanga Peninsula chapter. The virtual activity was attended by no-less than 164 participants composed mostly of RNAHC Technical Working Group members, RLA Information Officers, Nutrition Action Officers, Local Nutrition Program Coordinators, DOH9-HRH Nutritionist-Dietitians, Zamboanga City Schools Division teaching and non-teaching staff and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

Through the initiative of the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Ms. Mary Lissa B. Yorong, RM, an activity on ECCD (Early Childhood Care Development) F1KD (First 1000 days) “IDOL KO SI NANAY” was successfully conducted at Brgy. Tinongtungan, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay (ZS). The activity was held last March 21-25, 2022 at the barangay multi-purpose hall with the support of the Punong Barangay Hon. Winnie V. Bacay, BNS Marianne L. Sarjento, and the entire Barangay Nutrition Committee. The activity was supported by the municipality of Diplahan with the provision of one meal and two snacks per day to the participants. A 1-shot feeding for children ages 6-59 months old was also provided by the barangay on the last day of the activity. The convergence was participated by 25 mothers who are pregnant teenagers, and lactating mothers/caregivers of malnourished children 0-59 months old.
