Approval of RNC Reso No. 16

 7 July 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – Improving the nutrition situation cannot be achieved by one agency alone, but, it needs a multisectoral approach requiring the collaborative and unified nutrition efforts of all agencies, stakeholders and partners. Last 8 June 2021, the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) X approved two resolutions during its 1st Semester Meeting held via Zoom, namely:

The inclusion of AMCC and CMU in RNC X aims to strengthen the policy-making function of the committee to address nutrition and nutrition-related problems in Northern Mindanao through local research background reinforcement. With this expansion, RNC X now has a total of 29 members.

Baybay-Loguilo Rural Workers Association is a local salt producer composed of salt makers from the barangays of Baybay and Loguilo in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. The inclusion of BLRWA to RBATF X aims to strengthen the Salt Iodization Program in the region. The RBATF X is now composed of 27 members.

With the expansion of partners in the region, the RNC X and the National Nutrition Council X hopes to scale up nutrition actions as One Region in Nutrition. (NO II Arlie Joy O. Damiles)

Cleared Article on Approved RNC Reso 457 Infographics ljdr smgt08 June 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) X ensures that actions related to Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) are guided through the approval of three new resolutions during the 1st Semester Meeting of the RNC, Regional Nutrition Cluster and RNC-Technical Working Group held on 8 June 2021 via Zoom application.

The body approved the following resolutions related to NiE, to wit:

Article CDO 2021 NET Validation Visit1 July 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The third and last Region 10 local government unit vying for national awards, Cagayan de Oro City, underwent a two-day virtual validation visit facilitated by the National Evaluation Team (NET) last 29-30 June 2021. Cagayan de Oro City is vying for the 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Award.

Ms. Racelline Faye Calangi of National Nutrition Council (NNC)-Nutrition Surveillance Division, acted as the NET team leader, accompanied by team members Ms. Divine Grace C. Domingo (University of the Philippines Los Baños), Ms. Geraldine Bea P. Pimentel (NNC-Nutrition Policy and Planning Division), and Ms. Iris Rowena A. Bernardo (Council of Deans and Heads of Nutrition and Dietetics/ Polytechnic University of the Philippines). NNC Region X through Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez, and Nutrition Officer Sheena Marie G. Talle provided support during the activity.

In his Opening Message, Mayor Oscar S. Moreno mentioned the importance of competitions, “It makes us realize that there are standards that need to be measured”, he said. Mayor Moreno also said that it is important to try to live to the said standards, whether or not the contender is first or last.

article on RNC Resolutions on LGU Shepherding6 July 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – In its first semester meeting for 2021 held 8 June 2021, the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) X approved two resolutions related to the local government unit shepherding initiative:

Northern Mindanao formulated its LGU mobilization strategy in 2015 which involves high performing LGUs in nutrition to mentor or shepherd fellow local governments. Ultimately, this strategy aims to improve nutrition management performance for positive nutrition outcomes.

As this mechanism will be implemented in a national scale, the RNC X approved the above-mentioned resolutions. The NorMIN RST composed of select RNC member agencies and representatives from nutrition awardee LGUs shall be mobilized to realize the LGU shepherding initiative. Specific members for the NorMIN RST and their functions are identified in the second resolution enumerated.

RDC Resolution on 2021 NM30 June 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – During its 126th Full Council Meeting last 24 June 2021, the Regional Development Council (RDC) X approved RDC Resolution No. 45, series of 2021 entitled “Supporting the 2021 July Nutrition Month Celebration”.

All RDC X members, local government units, and concerned stakeholders are enjoined to observe the campaign themed “Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, First 1000 Days tutukan!”

Specifically, the policy calls for the following: 1) for the LGUs to align their local plans for nutrition to the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition; 2) for the stakeholders to disseminate advocacy materials through various platforms; 3) conduct learning activities targeting the nutritionally vulnerable groups; 4) participate in national, regional and local Nutrition Month activities; and 5) conduct interactive activities relevant to the theme.

14 Virtual Launching and Talakayan sa PIA3 June 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – In celebration of the 47th Nutrition Month, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region X conducted the Virtual Launching and Talakayan sa PIA last 1 July 2021. The activity was streamed live at the NNC X and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 10 Facebook Pages. This was attended by Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC), local government units (LGUs), nutrition workers, panelists and avid followers of the NNC X Facebook Page. The municipalities, cities, and provinces of region 10 also launched the campaign in their respective localities apart from the regional virtual launching.

This year’s theme, Malnutrisyon patuloy na labanan, First 1000 days tutukan!”  calls for continued action to address malnutrition through the First 1000 Days of life strategy. The theme reaffirms the call for all members of society to pursue and continue efforts to address malnutrition guided by the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 as the framework. The theme also emphasizes the need for scaling up interventions in the first 1000 days through the strengthened implementation of Republic Act 11148 (Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act).
