25 November, Davao del Norte -- DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS Construction of Classrooms for Lumads (CCL) officially turned over a total of 6 classrooms to the residents of Sitio Banualay and Sitio Luno-luno, Gupitan, Municipality of Kapalong, Davao del Norte.
Present during the turn-over ceremony and blessing of the classrooms are Col. Luid Rex D Bergante,INF, (GSC) PA, Commanders 1001sr IBDE, 10ID, PA.; as well as LTC Rolly B Figueroa, CE (GSC) PA, commanding officer 534th Engineer Pacesetter Construction Battalion, 5nd Engineer Brigade PA.; Hon, Maria Theresa R. Timbol, Municipal Mayor of Kapalong; LTC Ronaldo DP Sarmiento, Inf,(GSC) PA, Commanding Officer 60IB; KC-CIDSS IPCDD - CCL Staff, and officials of both barangays.

The United Nations is declaring 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, spotlighting their vital role in human nutrition and food security, as well as urging efforts to improve sustainable production and reduce waste.
Proclaimed at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, IYFV 2021 is dedicated to raising awareness about the important role of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition, food security and health. UN has designated the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as lead agency for celebrating the year in collaboration with other relevant organizations and bodies of the United Nations system.
In a message during its launching last 15 December 2020, Secretary-General António Guterres said that despite tremendous benefits of fruits and vegetables, “we do not consume enough of them.”
“Fruits and vegetables are the cornerstone of a healthy and varied diet. They provide the human body with an abundance of nutrients, strengthen immune systems and help lower risks for a number of diseases,” he said.

The Davao City government will still continue to adapt to the anti-COVID working measures to all public and private offices until June 30 this year. This according to Executive Order No. 70 issued by Mayor Sara Z. Duterte on 28 December 2020, to extend EO 56 or the order for the adoption of other alternative work arrangements in public and private offices.
“It becomes necessary to extend Executive Order No. 56 s. 2020 to continuously avoid a close contact scenario for all employees and to decongest passengers of public utility vehicles throughout the day to lessen the risk of transmission,” the mayor stated in the recent order.
Mayor Duterte’s order stated, alternative work arrangements that can be implemented in public and private offices are skeleton workforce, work-from-home, and staggered working hours.
It said the guidelines are aimed at addressing the number of individuals, socialization, and overcrowding in workplaces and establishments as clustering of coronavirus cases has been traced in work areas and spread to households.

To help ensure continuous learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the provincial government of Davao Oriental turned over P5.7 million-worth of learning materials and equipment to the Department of Education (DepEd) in support of the agency’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP), last 05 January 2021. Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang led the turnover ceremony at the Provincial Capitol. According to him, the provincial government recognizes quality education as a foundation in improving people’s lives and obtaining sustainable development.
The donation include 17 units of duplicator machines, 9,322 reams of A4 book papers, 1,275 bottles of ink, 510 pieces master pens. These will be distributed to 17 district schools which comprise the whole Davao Oriental schools division.

The diarrhea outbreak in the municipality of Jose Abad Santos (JAS) in Davao Occidental province is now under control, the Provincial Health Office assured. “The 35 patients who were brought to Lachica Hospital in Jose Abad Santos are now in stable condition and anytime soon they will be discharged,” according to a report from Davao Occidental Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anne Margaux Quezada.
The Davao Occidental Provincial Health Office organized a team and went in Barangay Butuan in Jose Abad Santos in the morning of January 3 (Sunday) following a report from a concerned citizen at 10pm of January 2 (Saturday). The Provincial Disaster Risk and Rescue Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by Harry Camorro, upon arrival in the area, directly assisted the patients to the hospital.
JAS Mayor Jason John Joyce announced on January 3 a diarrhea outbreak in Barangay Butuan which resulted to the hospitalization of 33 residents and to the death of a 62-year old male resident identified as Emilio Sumanday from Sitio Malwayog who died on January 2, 2021.

The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI on December 07, 2020, during their virtual 4th quarter meeting for CY 2020 deliberated and approved the CY 2022 Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for Davao Region. Under this approved AIP, priority programs and projects to be implemented include nutrition-sensitive programs and projects such as the construction of road connectivity, farm-to-market roads, bridges, school buildings, ICT innovation hubs, potable water systems, total electrification project (TEP) and Waste to Energy project, among others.
The total amount programmed for the CY 2022 AIP for Davao Region is Php287.561 billion, with Php62.833 billion reserved for Social Development Sector, while Infrastructure Development sector getting the lion’s share at Php193.502 billion, Economic Development sector at Php24.528 billion and Development Administration sector at Php6.698 billion.
