In compliance to Memorandum Circular No. 05, S. 2015 of Civil Service Commission re: Dissemination and Adoption of the “10 Kumainments”, National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI strengthens its campaign all over the region.
Public awareness is the first step for the regionwide campaign. After the soft launching conducted last
December 3, 2014 with the presence of Regional Federation of Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers (P/CNAOs), District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Western Visayas Nutri-Media Circle (WVNMC), NNC, RVI conducted meetings with other nutrition partners integrating the “10 Kumainments” advocacy.
The said Memo Circular was also sent to Local Nutrition Committees to encouraged them undertake indicated activities to inspire people adopt a healthy lifestyle.
WVNMC also helped NNC, RVI for the media campaign through conduct of interviews and TV/radio guestings. The Memo Circular and the “10 Kumainments” messages were published on the local newspaper, “News Express”, with one message per week. The 15 seconder radio plugs were aired at DYSI Super Radyo (1323kHz) and at DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod (630kHz). While the 15-30 seconder TV plugs and 10 Kumainments Audio Visual Presentation are being aired at Sky cable Channel 40 (Iloilo), 32 (Bacolod) and 3 (Sara, Iloilo).

The Municipality of Jordan, Guimaras is now on its Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) 2nd Year Maintenance.
The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) of Jordan presented the nutrition interventions, programs and projects implemented in 2014 based on its Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) during the evaluation conducted on June 8-11, 2015. The National Nutrition Evaluation Team (NNET) was led by Ms. Ellen Ruth Abella from National Nutrition Council (NNC), Central Office, Ms. Divine Grace Domingo from UPLB, Ms. Sherlane Bongalos from World Vision and Mr. Teddy Pelaez from Department of Health (DOH) Central Office as the photo documenter.
Among these are the construction of Nutri-Complex used for the production of Insumix and Nutri-Bakery which provides nutritious bread fed for the undernourished pre-school and school children. IYCF Support Group was organized in the community to support Infant and Young Child Feeding promotion.
Three randomly selected barangays namely Balcon Maravilla, San Miguel and Bugnay were evaluated thru desk review, measuring the functionality of Barangay Nutrition Committees and validating changes in the nutritional status of pre-school children by weighing ten percent (10%) of pre-school children.
Results of the evaluation will be announced by October, 2015.

21 March 2014, San Carlos City-The National Nutrition Council Region (NNC) R 6 led the Planning Workshop on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) conducted by the City of San Carlos, Negros Occidental last 21 March 2014 at Consuelo Zobel Alger Community Center, San Carlos City.
The planning workshop was attended by Punong Barangays of 18 barangays in the city and the Municipal/City Nutrition Committee (M/CNC).
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y took the lead on the planning workshop by orienting participants of their role and functions as part of the nutrition committee. RNPC Tad-y also briefed the participants about the Nutrition situation update of the city and made it as a basis of their objective to reduce the prevalence rate of undernutrition in their area. She also advised the participants to get hold of nutrition interventions which are proven to be effective in addressing malnutrition and continue to advocate and implement nutrition programs in their barangays.
In a matrix form provided, all Punong Barangays made their plans and it will be submitted to their City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Hon. Emmanuel J. Baguioro, SB Member. The CNC will hold another meeting to finalize the plans.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) is conducting a 2-day workshop for the proposed project on Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS) in selected municipalities in the region. Participants for the said training are the Local Health Workers who are trained for Household Data Collection.
As per request, National Nutrition Council (NNC), Region VI has been part of these activities by giving technical assistance during the conduct of workshop and ocular survey in different municipalities. This event is also a venue for NNC, RVI to generate support and commitment of Local Government Units (LGUs) to the program and other nutrition-related activities especially to strengthen the functionality of Local Nutrition Committees.
The team has completed the orientation meetings and consultative workshops in five (5) selected municipalities in Capiz namely Dumarao on February 24-25, 2015, Jamindan on February 26-27, 2015, Tapaz on March 3-4, 2015, Ivisan on March 5-6, and Dao on March 12-13, 2015. Another batch of the same training/workshop will be scheduled in selected municipalities of Aklan.

The regional association of District/City Program Coordinators in Western Visayas is set to be organized following the need to update list of officers and members and some changes in the local government units.
Ms. Nona Tad-y Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator said the updated list of officers have to be submitted to the District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators Association of the Philippines (D/CNPCAP), as requested during its 4th National Convention in October last year.
It was observed that some D/CPNCs were not designated by the local chief executives but still sit as such, and there are those who were not trained or oriented on their roles and functions.
Ms. Noniza Lozada, DNPC of Iloilo said that there is need for these D/CNPCs to undergo necessary trainings or orientation to become more aware of their responsibilities.
On the other hand, Ms. Crescini Roxas, DNPC of Aklan and a member of the Board of Directors of D/CNPCAP said that the D/CNPCs should actively participate in nutrition-related programs and should be dedicated to their tasks.
RNPC Tad-y said that those who are not yet designated should remind their mayors and that all the D/CNPCs in the region should be re-oriented on their roles.
The group present during the D/CNPCs meeting last February 14, agreed that an election of officers will be conducted during the next meeting and full attendance should be ensured.

The Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) held its first meeting for CY 2015 on February 12 at Amigo Plaza HOTEL. RNC Chair Regional Director Marlyn W. Convocar, M.D., MPH, CESO IV of the Department of Health (DOH), Region VI presided over the meeting. It was attended by representatives from different partner agencies including Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD 6), Department of Education (DepEd 6), Philippine Information Agency (PIA 6), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI 6), UPV-BIDANI, National Food Authority (NFA 6), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG 6), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE 6), Department of Science and Technology (DOST 6), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA 6), Western Visayas Nutri Media Circle (WVNMC). The presidents of Regional Federation of NAOs and Regional Federation of BNSes also attended.
After the discussion of topics on Nutrition Situation Update Report 2015 (OPT Plus Report 2014), Legal Mandates and Functions of National Nutrition Council, Roles & Responsibilities and Resolutions of RNC and the Thrusts and Directions of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2014-2016, different issues and concerns were raised and given recommended actions.
