UHCTACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health – Center for Health and Development (DOH-CHD) in Eastern Visayas conducted a Leadership and Development Program for Universal Health Care (UHC) and initial vetting of milestones for the Regional Core Team.

The passing of UHC or R.A 11223 in the Philippines was part of health sector reform. This landmark legislation seeks to revitalize health care through a whole-of-system, whole-of-government, whole-of-society, people centered approach. It recognizes that health systems are naturally complex, dynamic, and adaptive.

With the implementation of UHC, all Filipinos are guaranteed equitable access to quality and affordable health care goods and services and are protected against financial risk. It helps ensure every Filipino is healthy, protected from health hazards and risks, and has access to affordable, quality and readily available health services that are suitable to their needs.

RDCPALO, Leyte - The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) through the Regional Development Council calls for nominations for the selection of new set of Private Sector Representatives (PCRs) for the 2022-2025 term of office.

The RDC is the highest policy-making body in the region. EO 325 provides that one-fourth of the fully constituted Council shall come from the private sectors and their term shall coincide with the term of the local elective officials.

The selection of RDC VIII PSRs for the 2022-2025 term of office is in accordance with the RDC VIII Resolution No. 50-A, series of 2022 entitled “Approving and Adopting the Guidelines on the Selection of RDC VIII Private Sector Representatives.

This was re-affirmed by RDC VIII Resolution No. 50-B, series of 2022 entitled “Approving the Sectoral Allocations of One-Fourth Membership of the Private Sector in the RDC VIII for the 2022-2025 Term of Office.

The RDC VIII Secretariat is inviting private sector organizations (PSOs) in Region 8 to participate in the selection process, specifically those under the following sectors; 1) Health and Nutrition; 2) Basic Education; 3) Person with Special Concerns (Women, Children, Youth, Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens); 4) Multi-media Communication; 5) Labor; 6) Tourism; 7) Infrastructure and Logistics; 8)Information and Communications Technology (ICT); 9) Energy; 10) Disaster Resiliency; and 11) Environment.

Moreover, the NEDA VIII as the secretariat of the RDC VIII pursuant to EO 325, series of 1996 otherwise known as the “Re-organization of the Regional Development Councils,” announces the start of the selection of the 15 RDC VIII PSRs for the 2022-2025 term of office. #RNPC-CPD

MeridaPALO, Leyte – The Local Government Unit of Merida, Leyte made the last hurrah of 2022 Nutrition Month (NM) culmination activity on July 31, 2022.

It was schedule on Sunday so there will be more who can attend according to Mr. Ernesto Pening, the town’s Municipal Nutrition Action Officer.

The culmination activity was participated by the LCE, local Sangunian, Liga ng mga Barangays and officials, MNC members, DepEd teachers and administrators, various government agencies, community-based volunteers such as Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), community-based organizations and farmers and mothers.

The event started with parade around the Poblacion and ended in the covered court where a short program and display of farm products of the municipality was done.

There was also NM contest such as biggest fruits and vegetables and poster making contest among high school students.

It was warmly welcomed by Mayor Rolando M. Villasencio who earlier had a talk with Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. The mayor said that food was abundant even during the last 3 years of the pandemic and people do not have to go to neighboring city of Ormoc and town for food.

He intends to buy the remaining fruits and vegetables but cannot do because all the display by the farmers were bought by residence because its cheap and fresh.

This was affirmed by their Municipal Agriculturist who said that food security and food sufficiency is the utmost priority of the municipality. He acknowledged the participation of community-based organizations who attended the NM culmination particularly the farmers whose contribution to food security and sufficiency brought down hunger and malnutrition in the town.

Meanwhile, RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. thanked the LGU particularly Mayor Villasencio and the entire Municipal Nutrition Committee for giving priority on nutrition programs.

He said the NM theme of this year “New Normal na Nutrition, Sama samang Gawan ng Solusyon” is apt for the municipality as they implement nutrition programs through multisectoral approach.

Dr. Dotollo further thanked the mayor for putting in their Devolution Transition Plan creation of 4 nutrition permanent plantilla positions. He also thanked the Liga ng mga Barangay for coming up for the first time Barangay Nutrition Action Plans in the 35 barangays.

The challenge according to Dr. Dotollo is its implementation and later monitoring and evaluation of Barangay nutrition program interventions.

Furthermore, Dr. Dotollo challenge the municipality all the sectors present to make Merida not only the home of merry and dashing people but likewise the home of the healthiest.

In closing he exclaimed making Merida home of the healthiest starts with making the town “Nutrisyong Sapat para sa Lahat.” #RNPC-CPD

Sogod BayPALO, Leyte – The National Nutrition Council Region 8 (NNC8) on August 3, 2022 joined the Sogod Inter-local Health Zone meeting to discuss updates on the Tutok-Kainan – Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) of the government.

The Sogod Bay ILHZ is composed of the municipalities of Sogod, Bontoc, Tomas Opus, Libagon and Liloan. An ILHZ is defined to be any form or organized arrangement for coordinating the operations of an array and hierarchy of health providers and facilities, which typically includes primary health providers, core referral hospital and end-referral hospital, jointly serving a common population within a local geographic area.

For NNC8, updates on the Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) Phase 5 for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women was discussed. The 19 local government units (LGUs) of the province composed of 18 municipalities and 1 city is a part of the program.

2022 BNS Day

The 2022 Barangay Nutrition Scholars' Day in Region 8, spearheaded by the Eastern Visayas Association of Barangay Nutrition Scholars, has successfully concluded on July 28, 2022 via the Zoom App. 
With outstanding speakers coming from the National Nutrition Council and UNICEF Philippines, the said activity was successfully held and virtually participated in by more than 100 BNSs.

Daram CulminationPALO, Leyte - As restrictions lift continuing the reduction of Covid-19 in the region, the municipalities come alive in celebration of the 2022 Nutrition Month.

The local government unit with their Nutrition and Health Offices spearhead the various activities that would showcase the skills and creativity of their community members while spreading the awareness and appreciation of nutrition in the general public.

In Daram, participants created sumptuous recipes using the INSUMIX in their “Daram Masterchef NANAY Edition”.

INSUMIX or Indigenous Supplementary Mixture is a complementary food that is locally produced in Daram by the San Roque Farmers' Association with assistance from the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO), Alexis Garduce.

Innovative products such as these are used in feeding programs or distributed in vulnerable households targeting undernutrition and micronutrient deficiency in children.

Among the recipe creations of the Daram Nanays were Insumix puto: squash and chocolate flavor, Insumix ulam burger, Insumix lomi and Insumix sopas.

An Awarding Ceremony was also held to announce the grand winner of The Biggest Loser Challenge Daram Edition .
