Catbalogan City, Samar - The provincial government of Samar through the Provincial Nutrition Committee holds Nutrition Summit 2022 last July 21, 2022.
The summit is one of the major activity of the province in celebration of the annual Nutrition Month (NM).
This year’s summit carries the theme “Nutrition and Resilience: The New Normal. The theme is aligned with 48th NM theme “New Normal Na Nutrisyon, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon.”
Both theme calls for solidarity among nutrition stakeholders toward nutrition resilience in the new normal as the country shifts from COViD 19 pandemic to endemic mode.
The summit was participated by provincial leaders headed by Governor and Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) Chairperson Hon. Sharee Ann Tan, the provincial board members headed by Vice Governor Arnold Tan and city municipal mayors, vice mayor and sangunian bayan members.

TACLOBAN CITY - Another milestone in the National Nutrition Council Regional Office 8, as it holds Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement general orientation and organizational meeting last July 22, 2022 at Hotel Rodolfo in Tacloban City.
The SUN Movement was launched in September 2010.
It was jointly created by individuals from a range of governments, agencies, and groups, who were concerned that rates of malnutrition in some countries were not decreasing despite economic growth.

PALO, Leyte - The municipality of Guiuan in Eastern Samar kicked off its series of activities in commemoration of the 48th Nutrition Month (NM) celebration.
This year’s NM theme is “New Normal na Nutrition, Sama-samang Gawan ng Solusyon”.
The municipality shun from the usual motorcade but instead hanged tarpaulins in various offices and barangays. Apart from hanging streamers and tarpaulins, the municipality invited heads of offices, various national government agencies, non-government organizations and barangay captains to attend the First 1000 Days (F1KD) Advocacy Forum.
Before the F1KD input, Dr. Socorro Flores welcomed the participants and elucidated on the theme of the celebration. She said that constituents should be adapted with new normal as we shift from COVID 19 pandemic to endemic.
After which, Malou A. Evardone, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, made an eye opener of nutrition situation of the municipality. She also disclosed top 10 Barangays with the high magnitude of stunting, wasting, underweight and overweight and obesity. The presentation drew a huge scream from the audience particularly the barangay captains present.

PALO, Leyte - The city of Catbalogan in Samar province has recently unveiled its nutrition office logo.
It was spearheaded by no less than city mayor Hon. Dexter Uy. Others in attendance were all the city Sanguniang Panglunsod, city department heads, employees and staff of both city health and nutrition offices and some media partners.
In the logo is a thin gray line (see picture below) that encompassed everything constitute to the reminder that the vision of the city nutrition office of Catbalogan will never be impossible if what the gray means: neutrality, intelligence, technology, and modesty.
The 3-person icon at the upper middle portion of the logo is a representation of healthy people of Catbalogan City. The green person icon means healthy Catbaloganons, orange symbolizes leading the virtue of good governance while the color apple green person icon means the city is being manned by dedicated health and nutrition workforce.
A food icon enclosed in green circle symbolizes the entirely commitment to educate continuously people of Catbalogan the significance of good nutrition in the attainment of optimum quality of life of it’s people.
The icon of a boy and a girl with height board enclosed in a circle of yellow boarder represents the undying hope and d dedication that stunting rates in Catbalogan City will continue to decline and will one day be totally alleviated.

TACLOBAN CITY - After the grand motorcade as kick off activity of the 2022 regional launching, a press conference was facilitated by Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 8.
The press conference was attended by various public and private media practitioners including NNC8 media arm Harmonized Initiative of Media for the Soread of Good Nutrition (HIMSOG) 8.
Panelist of the press conference were Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. of NNC 8, Miss Felecita Borata of DOH CHD 8, Mr. Francisco Rosaroso and Ms. Nemi Aurora Abalos both from the Department of Agriculture Field Office 8.
The press conference was moderated by Ms. Gemma Torres Tabao of PIA8.
The media personalities took turns on asking the panelist question related to nutrition which they all answered with enthusiasm.
Member of the media first ask about how did NNC 8 came about the various activities. In rresponse, Dr. Dotollo, it was a concerted efforts of all nutrition stakeholders and partners through series sales conference which ultimately drafted and approve the program of activities of the month-long celebration.

PALO, Leyte – The City Nutrition Committee of Catablogan in Samar has unveiled its nutrition office logo that signals the creation of nutrition office with budget and creation of permanent plantilla positions in a span of 3 years starting this year.
This was a result of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI PRO), conducted by the Provincial Nutrition Evaluation Team last year. The MELLPI result revealed several red tags in various nutrition indicators.
The first step in improving nutrition outcomes is passing a comprehensive nutrition code. The code specified among others creation of separate nutrition office, permanent nutrition plantilla positions and an incremental budget. Said code was passed and approved the Sanggunian Panglunsod in June 2022.
Meanwhile, a resolution for unveiling the nutrition office logo was finally approved on July 11, 2022, in its regular session. After its approval, immediately on the afternoon the unveiling of nutrition logo at the City Nutrition Office was done.
The unveiling last July 11, 2022 was attended by no less than Catbalogan City mayor Dexter Uy and the entire members of the Sangguniang Panglunsod.
Also present was all city departments heads, including city health and nutrition officials and some members of the local media.
Furthermore, National Nutrition Council 8 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. was invited to give an inspirational message.
Dr. Dotollo commended the city’s leadership for coming up this milestone and worthy endeavor. He told the audience present that other LGUs not only in Samar, but the rest of the region can benchmark and showcase the efforts of the LGU and the city nutrition committee along these activities.
