PALO, Leyte - The World Food Program (WFP) will implement Cash Based Transfers (CBT) among community- based volunteer workers (CBVWs) in Limasawa Island in Southern Leyte.
CBVWs included Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in the municipality.
A cash-based transfer is money given to vulnerable people who can use it to buy what they most need in their local markets. It is simply a payment from the government to help improve the lives of its citizens.
Cash transfer payments can be made in a lump sum or in many smaller installments.
It is a poverty reduction measure in which government subsidies and other benefits are given directly to the poor in cash rather than in the form of subsidies.
The impact of administering cash transfers shows that it can substantially improve the lives of the extreme poor.

PALO, Leyte - A total of 13 personnel of the Rural Health Unit here has joined the 5-day Idol Ko Si Nanay Training of Trainers.
The activity kicked off on Monday, with the National Nutrition Council Region 8 providing technical assistance.
Idol Ko Si Nanay Facilitator's Guide is designed to be complementary material of Infant and Young Child Feeding Counseling cards (Gabay sa Pagpapasuso at Pagpapakain ng Sanggol at Bata developed by DOH, NNC, and UNICEF) used as conseling tool.
The training can also complement other materials, interventions, and activities in the community. ECCD Council National Early Learning Curriculum and learning resource packages. PopCom's Responsible Parenthood, DSWDs Family Development Sessions (FDS), Parent Effectiveness Service (PES), Nutrition Center of the Philippines, Pabasa sa Nutrisyon, and other materials from development partners.
Through this, health and nutrition workers will learn to empower participants in coming up vital decision for improvement of their children's nutritional status.

BORONGAN CITY - The National Nutrition Council Region 8 has started the five-day Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Training Course in Borongan City on May 16, 2022.
The activity, funded by the local government unit, will run until May 20.
Five technical staff from NNC8 headed by RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr, is leading the training, assisted by CNAO Jassie Acla-Alegre and her staff.
This activity aims to capacitate BNS with basic knowledge and skills, as well as core values and traits that are necessary for them to perform their roles and functions effectively.
The BNS Program is a human resource development strategy of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, which involves the recruitment, training, deployment, and supervision of volunteer workers called the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).

PALO, Leyte - Casandig Farmers Association, an Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organization (ARBO) based in the municipality of Gandara, Samar signs Marketing Agreement (MA) with the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
The MA signing signals the implementation of NNC’s Tutok Kainan: Dietary Supplementation Program(TK DSP) for the municipality of Matuguinao, Samar.
The target participants of the TK DSP are children 6-23 months old that will run for 180 feeding days.
The identified ARBO will supply raw food commodities for the target barangays of Matuguinao, Samar.
The MA signing was inked by Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr., Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator representing National Nutrition Council Region 8 and Casandig Farmers Association President, Tito C. Lejas.

PALO, Leyte – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) in Eastern Visayas has officially sealed its partnership with an Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization in Dagami, Leyte for the Dietary Supplementation Program dubbed “Tutok Kaninan”.
Mr. Ruth M. Borja, President of the Camono-an Agrarian Reform Community Farmer's Association (CARFA) signed the Marketing Agreement with NNC Region 8 represented by Ms. Annabel Limbagan and Mr. Ramel Bandibas, the Provincial Nutrition Focal Point for Leyte and Northern Samar, respectively.
Also present during the activity were Hon. Paquito M. Madalina, Barangay Captain and CARCFA Vice-President; Teresita S. Magallon association member; Mr. Din Jeruel M. Pagliawan, DARPO Leyte; and Ms. Cresil N. Balicot, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Dagami.
PNFP Bandibas briefly also discussed the overview of the program prior to the ceremonial signing at Camono-an Barangay Hall.
As stipulated in the marketing agreement, CARFA will supply food commodities to eight municipalities in Leyte including the towns of Dagami, Pastrana, Tabon-tabon, Julita, Jaro, Tunga, Santa Fe, and Barugo. #PNFP-ABL

TACLOBAN CITY - As a member of the Regional Population Executive Board, the National Nutrition council actively participated its first quarter meeting on May 19, 2022.
Part of the updates from the previous meeting, the Commission on Population in Region 8 has already forwarded Memorandum of Agreement to NNC Region 8 for its partnership agreement on the implementation of Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) activities/strategies.
This was raised Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr., Regional Program Coordinator to include NNC in the conduct of RPFP in the workplace for the integration of Nutrition Programs in the region.
Furthermore, RPEB Chairperson Ms. Elnora R. Pulma asked the commitment of all concerned agencies to fully support the implementation of the Regional Population and Development Plan of Action (RPD-PoA) for FY 2022-2028 through a Resolution and to be endorsed to the Social Development Council.
Other highlights of the activity are the Mapping of Health Service Facilities and Special Protection Program for Teenage Mothers and their Children (SPPTMC).
