PALO, Leyte - Local government units in Western and Northern Samar, under the Provincial Nutrition Governance Program (PNGP) of the Zuellig Family Foundation and UNICEF-KOICA, joined this year’s colloquium anchored on the theme “Preparing Provinces Toward a UHC-ready Nutrition System.”
The activity aims to share the accomplishments and analysis of PNGP’s effort in integrating and harmonizing First 1000 Days Services Delivery Network to improved health and nutrition system and reduce stunting prevalence.
Present LGUs headed by their respective LCEs, MNAOs, and MHOs include the towns of San Jose, Gamay, Mapanas, Lope De Vega, Lapinig, Catarman, and Mondragon all in Northern Samar.
On the other hand, Samar delegation was headed by the provincial governor, Hon. Michael Reynolds Tan, together with the members of the local nutrition committees of San Jose de Buan, Tarangnan, Gandara, Pagsanghan, Paranas and the cities of Catbalogan and Calbayog.

PALO, Leyte - “Tatak Tangkad” is Samar’s brand of First 1,000 days program. This time the Province of Biliran has its own version of First 1000 days through its Tulong Pang Nutrisyon (TPN).
TPN was launched last June 9, 2022 with a funding of about 5 million pesos under the Presidential Fund. The project was spearheaded and initiated by the Provincial Governor Hon. Rogelio Espina.
Originally, intended for 0-5 years old children but because of the implementation of R.A 11148 or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Magnanay Act was focus pregnant and lactating women and 0-2 years old children.
According to District Nutrition Program Coordinator Mr Rio Rosales, the program components include distribution of food backs, micro-nutrient supplementation both for pregnant and lactating women and 6-23 months old children. It also has a component of home backyard gardening by distribution of seeds and seedlings to identified targets. Exclusive breastfeeding is also part of the implementation for infants 0-6 months old.
NNC 8 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr advised the DNPC to draft a resolution ordinance in support of the TPN. Likewise, Dr. Dotollo also advised to include nutrition education in its program component.

PALO, Leyte - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 8 has conducted a simultaneous monitoring of Nutriskwela community radio stations across the region from June 1-2, 2022.
RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr. and PNFP for Leyte, Annabel Limbagan, inspected the Radyo Kausbawan at Palompon Institute of Technology in Palompon, Leyte; PNFP Gerico Sabalza visited Radyo Kabulig and Radyo Kauswagan in San Policarpio town and Borongan City, repectively, both in Eastern Samar; while PNFP Ramel O. Bandibas monitored Radyo Kabulig in Catubig, Northern Samar.
Though some of them reported minor damages due to the series of typhoon that hit the region last year and in the past months, they have continued serving the community through the airing of various nutrition and other development programs.

PALO, Leyte - The National Nutrition Council Region 8 avidly supports all nutrition initiatives promoting the well-being of the vulnerable groups (women & children) in normal times and especially during emergencies and disasters.
The NNC 8 team attended the E.O. 51, Milk Code Briefing organized by UNICEF Philippines through the initiative of UNICEF Hub and Local Nutrition Cluster Southern Leyte for all concerned Head of Offices, facilities and health units including concerned staff and humanitarian actors last June 9, 2022.
The activity aims to ensure nutrition actions are in-line with Executive Order 51 through the leadership of the head offices and concerned offices and staff in the region and to strengthen the MILK CODE ENFORCEMENT as response to the identified gaps during Typhoon Odette and Agaton.

PALO, Leyte - As the implementation of the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) Tutok Kainan - Dietary Supplementation Program is set to begin, the Provincial Nutrition Focal Point (PNFP) of Northern Samar, Mr. Ramel Bandibas, has paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Norman Sabdao of San Miguel, Leyte.
Together with Ms. Maria Lorelie Brazil, its newly-appointed Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO), were able to discuss and revisit the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the NNC and the local government unit.
According to Mayor Sabdao, the LGU will give their full support to the TKDSP implementation and pledged to comply with the necessary funding for the purchase of needed materials in the food storage facility for raw commodities.
In addition, the Hon. Mayor extended his gratitude to the National Nutrition Council for looking up a wholistic supplementation program that covers 180 days for 6-23months old Children.
After the fruitful and meaningful discussion, Mayor Sabdao, Dr. Macario A. Felicen II, a DOH doctor to the barrio; MNAO Brazil; and PNFP Bandibas headed to Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Barangay Captains' meeting to discuss matters on Health and Nutrition.

PALO, Leyte – Two more Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations (ARBOs) in Leyte has partnered with the National Nutrition Council (NNC) for the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TKDSP).
The identified farmers’ association are Kasanag Farmer Irrigators Multipurpose Cooperative (Kasanag FIMPCO) in Ormoc City and Omaganhan Farmers Agrarian Reform Cooperative (OFMPC) in Tabango town. Both are registered with Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).
TKDSP program aims to reduce malnutrition rate specifically wasting and stunting among children and help local farmers somehow gain income for them to provide food for their family.
The two identified ARBOs will supply raw products such as fresh meat, poultry products, fish, fruits, and vegetables, and among others for the meal requirement for the 6-23 months old children. These fresh food items will be used to prepare healthy recipes for 6-23months old children consistent with the NNC approved cycle menu.
