Bauang, La Union- With the aim of enhancing the knowledge and skills of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) on nutrition through capacity building and continuing education, the LUPang Ilocos Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Federation, Inc. in coordination with the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I held its 1st Nutrition Symposium and General Assembly last February 17, 2015 at Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union which was attended by around 50 officers from the regional, provincial and city BNS Federations.
The event was highlighted with presentations and discussions on Basic Computer and Documentation Processes by Mr. Cesar O. Obar, Publisher, Weekly City Bulletin and Ms. Joan Gonzales, of the Information Communication Technology (ICT), DOH-ROI, respectively. The presentations gave BNSs a wider and deeper appreciation of their roles and responsibilities as frontline workers in their respective communities.

11 February 2015—The League of Nutrition Action Officers in Region I, Inc. (RLNAOs) in cooperation with the Provincial Nutrition Office of Ilocos Sur and in coordination with the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I (NNC-ROI) will hold its 21st Annual Conference cum General Assembly on March 11-13, 2015 at Nueva Segovia Consortium Cooperatives (NSCC) Plaza, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur. This year’s conference will be hosted by the Province of Ilocos Sur.
The conference with the theme: “RLNAOs: Responding to the Increasing Incidence of Overnutrition, Gearing up for New Challenges” will focus on overnutrition as one of the major factors in developing non-communicable diseases.
One of the highlights of the activity will be the regional launching of the 10 Kumainments. The 10 Kumainments was developed by the National Nutrition Council as the popular version of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos to promote positive nutrition practices to prevent malnutrition and encourage healthy lifestyle among the Filipinos. It consists of shorter and simpler messages for better recall and understanding.
Around 200 nutrition action officers, local nutrition committee members and other local-based nutrition workers are expected to attend the activity.
The conference will be an avenue for nutrition action officers and nutrition partners to learn more and be updated on nutrition. (KPAG)

28 November 2014-- With the objective of increasing awareness of the community on proper health and nutrition particularly families with underweight preschool children, the National Nutrition Council in coordination with the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates (RONDA), local media group in Region I, conducted a one day civic advocacy activity in Salomague Sur, Bugallon, Pangasinan which was attended by around 100 participants from the barangay particularly, parents of undernourished children, barangay officials and barangay volunteers.
The event was graced by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco, Municipal Administrator Amado Aquino, Provincial Nutritionist-Dietitian Mila Gutierez, Barangay Captain Edilbrando Maza and the members of RONDA.

Bauang, La Union – The NNC- Regional Office I conducted the annual Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition- Program Implementation Review (PPAN-PIR) last January 8-9, 2015 at Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union to assess the implementation of local PPAN implementation in the region.
The PPAN is the country’s blueprint in addressing hunger and malnutrition in the country. It provides the framework for improving the nutritional status of Filipinos. The periodic assessment of local PPAN implementation is essential to determine whether programs and projects were done as planned and whether resources are utilized efficiently.

Tagudin, Ilocos Sur- The Municipality of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur through Mayor Jose Bunoan, Jr. committed their full support to the Food and Nutrition Security-Early Warning System (FNS-EWS) Project of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) during the preliminary visit to the municipality and FNS-EWS orientation conducted by NNC Regional Office last November 11, 2014 atTagudin Municipal Hall. The orientation was attended by members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) spearheaded by the MNC Chairperson, Mayor Bunoan including Presidents of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs)Federations.
Ms. Ma. Eileen Blanco, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC Region I said in her message that Tagudin, Ilocos Sur was chosen as an area for the EWS-FNS because of its high prevalence rate of malnutrition based on the 2013 Operation Timbang Results. “Thisis a specific type of food security information system that provides timely notice of impending acute food security crises,” she added.

Cervantes, Ilocos Sur— “Empowering the community through radio to disseminate correct, current and relevant nutrition and health information from all concerned sectors of the community, government agencies and non-government agencies” – this is the goal of the radio program established by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) at the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College- Cervantes Campus.
Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program was launched inside the ISPSC campus during the orientation and ocular visit conducted last November 13, 2014 at the College Canteen, ISPSC. The orientation was spearheaded by Ms. Jovita Raval, Division Chief of NIED- NNC, Mr. Francis “Kiko” Flores, NNC Media Partner of MQ Mediazone and Ms. Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC-Region I and was attended by the officials and faculty members of the ISPSC- Cervantes Campus with ISPSC President, Dr. Rafael B. Querubin.
