The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Regional Office I in collaboration with the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMADs) of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit I (DA RFU) shared “Nutrition Concepts” and “The Important Role of Barangay Food Terminal (BFT) during the recently conducted Management & Capability Enhancement Training for Barangay Food Terminal Operators of Brgy. San Marcelino, Dingras, Ilocos Norte.

8The National Nutrition Council LUPang Ilocos conducted a five-day live in training on Nutrition Program Management last September 30 to October 4, 2013 at the Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union. This training aims to enhance the capacity of local nutrition workers particularly on managing nutrition programs at the local level. It is intended to build capacities of local implementers particularly in identifying ways of improving local Nutrition Program Management especially in the development and implementation of responsive and effective nutrition plans.

Newly-designated Nutrition Action Officers and areas with no Local Nutrition Action Plans were trained. A total of 25 participants attended the training coming from the different municipalities and cities of the region. They were very thankful that a training like this was sponsored by the National Nutrition Council.

1Laoag City- The Regional LUPangIlocos District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Federation, Inc. just recently held their 3rd congress last September 20, 2013 at the Plaza del Norte Convention Center. This was hosted by the Province of Ilocos Norte with the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Regional Office I serving as the overall coordinator of the event.

This year’s regional congress is guided by the theme, “Gutom at Malnutrisyon: D/CNPCs and BNSs, Kaagapay sa Solusyon” to highlight their important roles in addressing hunger and malnutrition in their respective localities and in line with the nutrition month celebration theme. The regional congress this year was remarkably successful  because  around 796 delegates coming from the four (4) provinces,  namely Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan including the seven (7) cities of the region,  Batac, Candon, Dagupan, Laoag, San Fernando, Urdaneta, and Vigan City attended.

7The National Nutrition Council, LUPang Ilocos Region conducted their team building activity last October 29 and 30, 2013 at the Subic International Hotel, Olongapo City with the theme “Building Trust and Confidence for a Healthy Relationship in the Workplace.”

The 2-day activity was divided into two parts: first, is the visit to the Ocean Adventure, where the staff realized the importance of every specie in the environment and how to be an instrument of change in order to protect nature and care for the animals. Second, is the team building activity proper where a series of activities to test trust, confidence, cooperation, teamwork and communication were demonstrated. The team leader plays a vital role and the importance of good communication skills was stressed in order to achieve the goals of the organization.

9San Fernando City, La Union- The 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) was successfully launched at the Sea & Sky Hotel  on September 23, 2013 by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Regional Office I headed by Ms. Rose Lulu P. Pagaduan,  OIC-Nutrition Program Coordinator and all stakeholders of LUPangIlocos region.

The NGF consists of ten (10) primary recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition. The messages include both food-based and behavior-driven guidelines to address current nutritional and dietary concerns. The goal of the NGF is the improvement of the nutritional status, productivity and quality of life of the population, through adoption of desirable dietary practices and healthy lifestyle.
