San Fernando City, La Union—The National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I will intensify its effort in promoting and advocating proper nutrition using the worldwide web to increase awareness of netizens especially the Ilocanos and Pangasinenses.
Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen B. Blanco said that social media particularly facebook has become the widest source of information and NNC is exploring all means and channels of disseminating good nutrition and health tips to inform and educate the public.
“We at the NNC believe that social media offers the widest range of approaches for nutrition promotion and advocacy so we are strengthening our official webpage, www.nnc.gov.ph/regional-offices/regiona-i-lupangilocos and fanpage www.facebook.com/nncregion1, our sites to promote good nutrition and interact with other partners and constituents in the region using the internet,” she added.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, November 5 (PIA) - The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Regional Office 1 recently recognized active local health implementers during the 2015 Regional Nutrition Awarding ceremony last 27 October 2015 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Convention Hall, San Fernando City, La Union.
According to NNC Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, awardees were local government units (LGUs) and individuals who stood out in implementing nutrition programs last year.
“This annual search is to assess how efficient LGUs and individuals are in implementing local nutrition programs and to encourage them more to be exemplary in taking initiatives to improve the health of their constituents,” Blanco said.
Coveted awards given were the Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementers (Provincial and City Category), Provincial Green Banner Award-Municipal Category, Regional Green Banner Award-Municipal Category and the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
For the Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementers Award (Provincial Category), the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur were given plaques of recognition.
For the City Category, five LGUs were honored namely Urdaneta City, Candon City, Batac City, Laoag City and Alaminos City.

Cebu City—Members and officers of the Regional Organization of Nutrition Development Advocates-1 (RONDA-1), an organization of local media practitioners in Region I both from print and broadcast media together with the technical staff of NNC-ROI visited Media Information Network for Nutrition and Development-7 (MIND-7) in Cebu City last August 5-7, 2015 to observe and learn strategies and concepts concerning media related nutrition activities which RONDA-1 can adapt.
MIND-7, an organization of local media group for nutrition in Region VII organized by NNC- Central Visayas, is one of the most active media group for nutrition in the country.

DZNF Radio Kailian (97.3) brought home five major awards in the 1st Nutriskwela Awards during the 6th National Conference of the Nutriskwela Radio Network Program of the Department of Health Head Office, October 6-8, Mindanao Civic Center, Tubod, Lanao del Norte. The station bested 34 other competitors from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi.
The Community Radio bagged the following awards: Best Radio Station, Best Nutrition Program and Best Radio Studio. Further, Mr. Joemar “DJ Joem” Cabradilla was adjudged as the Best Male Broadcaster and Mr. Christian Rasalan reaped the Best Radio Technician award. The awardees were given plaques and cash prizes respectively.

Laoag City—The National Nutrition Council-ROI joins the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program Families and the whole region in observance of the National Family Week last October 4, 2015 at Centennial Arena, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte attended by around 2,000 beneficiaries and partner agencies.
With the theme: “Tuloy ang Pagbabago!” Director Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo of DSWD-ROI affirmed the positive changes of the program on the lives of the poor beneficiaries.
“The ‘Kaya Ko ang Pagbabago’ campaign brings into the message that Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries have stepped-up and worked hard in achieving positive changes in their lives,” he added.

Solsona, Ilocos Norte—The National Nutrition Council- ROI presented the Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS) project for its expansion in Solsona, Ilocos Norte during the preliminary visit spearheaded by Mr. Kendall Gatan and Ms. Gretchen Nisperos of NNC-ROI last September 23, 2015. The visit aims to get the commitment, support and acceptance of the Local Government Unit of Solsona to adopt the said project which will eventually assist them with objective or evidence-based and relevant interventions needed to address or alleviate food insufficiency on a short-term as well as long-term basis. 25 members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee led by Private Secretary to the Mayor, Mr. Rene Santillan, members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee represented by the PNAO Elma Irapta and DNPC Christina Caroy attended the orientation.
Solsona is identified as the expansion area for the project as one of the nutritionally depressed municipality in the region based on the result of the Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+) in 2014 and the Province of Ilocos Norte is identified as disaster-prone area.
