Around 700 Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Ilocos Norte attended the 7th Provincial BNS Congress held at Ernesto C. Go Mega Complex, Currimao, Ilocos Norte last July 15, 2016.The Ilocos Norte Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Federation spearheaded the 7th Provincial BNS Congress held at Ernesto C. Go Mega Complex, Currimao, Ilocos Norte last July 15, 2016 with the theme, “Salun-at ti Maladaga Masalwadan, Umuna nga 1000 Days Intay Iwan-Wan, BNS Ilocos Norte Sanggir ken Mapangnamnamaan” which is anchored with the 2016 Nutrition Month theme: “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.” Around 700 BNSs coming from the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte attended the said event.

Honorable Gladys Go Cue, Vice-Mayor of Currimao graced the event as the keynote speaker. In her message she commended the unsung heroes- the BNSs of Ilocos Norte headed by the Federation President Mr. Darwin Tumbaga for keeping the spirit of volunteerism alive and playing a vital role in promoting nutrition at the grass root level especially during the First 1000 days of life.

Mayor Arthur F. Celeste of Alaminos City led the signing of commitment to support the implementation of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Intervention Package for the First 1000  Days in ASAPP areas during the Regional ECCD Intervention Package launching held at Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center, Alaminos City last July 14, 2016.The Regional Launching of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Intervention Package for the First 1000 Days and Nutrition Month/ ECCD Press Conference was successfully conducted last July 14, 2016 at Don Leopoldo Sison Convention Center, Alaminos City, Pangasinan.

The event was hosted by the City Government of Alaminos led by Honorable Mayor Arthur F. Celeste and in partnership with RONDA-1 and KBP- Pangasinan Chapter.

This was attended by around 250 nutrition stakeholders comprising members of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and Regional Nutrition Planning and Evaluation Team (RNPET), representatives from the ECCD (ASAPP) Areas (Municipalities of Umingan and Bayambang, Cities of Urdaneta and Alaminos) and local media partners, among others.

The ECCD Intervention Package aims to contribute to the full growth and development of the child through integrated services of health, nutrition, early education, and social services for improved quality of the country’s human resource base. This is NNC’s commitment and contribution in the reduction of poverty particularly in ASAPP areas.

This year’s theme “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan” highlights the First 1000 days of life, starting from the first day of conception until the 2nd birthday of the child which globally is considered as the “golden window of opportunity” for interventions that aim to achieve maximum potential of a child’s growth and development.

Hundred thirteen (113) pregnant and lactating mothers in the municipality availed various health and nutrition services such as nutrition counselling, pre and post-natal consultations and dental check-ups provided by medical practitioners from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITMRC), Provincial Health and Nutrition Offices of La Union and the Rural Health Unit of San Gabriel, La Union.

Blanco receiving the Pabasa Sa Nutrition Hall of Fame Award during the Joint PAN and PSND Convention last July 7, 2016 at Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila.Finally, the Municipalities of Bacnotan and Naguilian, La Union garnered the most coveted Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) Hall of Fame Award while the Municipalities of Agoo, Balaoan and Rosario received their Pabasa sa Nutrisyon (PSN) Outstanding Award during the Joint Convention of the Philippine Association of Nutrition (PAN) Inc. and Philippine Society of Nutritionist Dietitians (PSND), Inc. held last July 7, 2016 at Century Park Hotel, Malate Manila.

In 2013 and 2014 the Municipalities of Bacnotan and Naguilian, La Union received PSN Outstanding Award, followed by an Exemplary Award in 2015 and recently the Hall of Fame Award for implementing Pabasa sa Nutrisyon for 4 consecutive years in all barangays in both municipalities.

San Gabriel, La Union was selected as venue for the said event to focus and strengthen the advocacy in a community populated with Indigenous People targeting 100 pregnant and lactating mothers.

sfcJuly 8, 2016- The City of San Fernando kicked-off the month long celebration of 2016 Nutrition Month through a launching program and Well Baby Contest held at People’s Hall, San Fernando City Hall, La Union last July 8, 2016. This was participated by lactating mothers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and City Hall employees.

City Health Officer Dr. Eduardo Posadas opened the program emphasizing that First 1000 Days is very crucial and foundation of a person’s life long health. He also appealed to everyone to join hands in the realization of the San Fernando City’s vision, “Northern Luzon's Center for Health and Wellness by 2020”.

City Vice-Mayor Hon. Alfredo Ortega in his message also emphasized the importance of ensuring best nutrition and health among pregnant women and children below 2 years old.
