Tan, Nutrition Officer II of NSD-NNC discussing the Nutrition Initial Needs Assessment (NINA) Tool during the Training on Nutrition in Emergencies for Local Nutrition Clusters of Ilocos Norte held at Northview Hotel, Laoag City last 23 May 2016 – The National Nutrition Council-Regional Office I in coordination with the Department of Health-Regional Office I (DOH-ROI) conducted 3-day live-in trainings on Nutrition in Emergencies for the City/Municipal Nutrition Clusters in the region. The training comprised of six (6) batches: two (2) batches for Pangasinan held last April 6 – 8, 2016 at Hotel Consuelo, Lingayen Pangasinan; two (2) batches for Ilocos Norte held last April 20 – 22, 2016 at Northview Hotel, Laoag City; one (1) batch for Ilocos Sur and La Union held last May 18 – 20, 2016 at Ariana Hotel, Bauang, La Union. These were participated by Local Nutrition Action Officers, Local Planning and Development Coordinators and Local Disaster Risk Reduction, Management Officers and Presidents of BNS Provincial Federations.

The training aims to capacitate the participants on the nutrition intervention package during emergencies and formulation of Nutrition in Emergencies Preparedness, Response and Recovery Plan. Also, it aims to enjoin the participants to organize their Local Nutrition Clusters in their respective cities and municipalities in compliance to the Regional Development Council Resolution No. 60 s. 2014 “Enjoining LGUs to organize their Local Nutrition Clusters”.

The 3-day training was initiated by City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Dra. Luisa F. Cayabyab with the unwavering support of Mayor Julier C. Resuello.

The training aims to capacitate the newly deployed barangay nutrition scholars of San Carlos City.

hb scarlosSan Carlos City- The City Government of San Carlos fabricated wooden height boards and distributed to the 86 barangays of San Carlos City last May 6, 2016 at the City’s Bulwagan ng Katarungan Lobby attended by the newly appointed Barangay Nutrition Scholars together with their Barangay Captains.

This is in line with the mandate of the National Nutrition Council to adopt the new World Health Organization-Child Growth Standards to be used in growth assessment among children 0-5 years old in the Philippines where height was included as an indicator in assessing nutritional status.

The Regional Nutrition Committee of Region 1 through the Department of Health provided steel rules in all the 3,265 barangays regionwide last 2015 and enjoined LGUs to fabricate the wooden board.

The City Nutrition Committee of San Carlos through the City Engineering Office initiated the mounting of the steel rules and fabrication of Wooden Height Boards using the Guidelines on the Fabrication, Verification and Maintenance of Wooden Height Boards provided by NNC-Central Office.

Eileen Blanco, Nutrition Program Coordinator of NNC-ROI delivering her message during the EWS-FNS orientation held last May 31, 2016 at Alaminos City Conference HallAlaminos City, Pangasinan—The National Nutrition Council- ROI spearheaded by Nutrition Program Coordinator Ma. Eileen Blanco introduced the establishment of the Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS) project during the orientation meeting last May 31, 2016 held at Alaminos City Conference Hall. The visit aims to get the commitment, support and acceptance of the City Government of Alaminos City to adopt the said project which will eventually assist the decision makers in executing appropriate interventions supported by evidence-based EWS-FNS result to address or alleviate food insufficiency on a short-term as well as long-term basis.

The orientation was attended by 15 members of the City Nutrition Committee led by City Administrator Emielou Gellado in behalf of Mayor Arthuro Celeste together with representatives from the City Planning and Development Office, City Health Office, City Nutrition Office, City Agriculture Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Information Office, City BNS Federation and City BHW Federation

Ms. Nancy Paclos, Nutrition Officer II of NNC-ROI giving lecture on the First 1000 Days of life during the Provincial BNS Congress of Ilocos Sur held last April 26, 2016 at Baluarte Zoo Park, Vigan City.26 April 2016—The Provincial League of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in Ilocos Sur in coordination with the Provincial Nutrition Office and Provincial Government held its Provincial BNS Congress at Baluarte Zoo Park, Vigan City with the Theme: “First 1000 Days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan!” which is adopted from the 2016 Nutrition Month. This was attended by more than 500 BNSs coming from the 32 municipalities of the province.

The congress is an annual activity of the BNS Provincial League of Ilocos Sur to give health and nutrition updates to all Barangay Nutrition Scholars in the whole province. Likewise, the event serves as an avenue to hold its General Assembly.
