The Regional Bantay Asin Task Forces (RBATF) of Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region vowed for a stricter monitoring on the compliance to RA 8172 or “An Act Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide” after several salt samples from the market and households tested negative or low in iodine content using the iodine checker machine. This was concluded during the joint meeting of the RBATF of Region I and CAR with the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) members and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) of Abra and representatives from the Provincial Health and Nutrition Office of Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur held last November 8-9, 2016 at Gordion Hotel, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

Cervantes, Ilocos Sur – The DZNP-FM 93.5Mhz Nutriskwela Community Radio Station, Radyo Kabinnadang successfully re-organized its Community Radio Council (CRC) during its meeting on November 11, 2016 held at Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, South Cluster Campus, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur facilitated by the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I (NNC-ROI). This was attended by around 20 members of the radio council and station personnel including other sectors such as health and nutrition, religious, and youth.
The meeting aims to strengthen the sectoral and community participation of the people of Cervantes, Ilocos Sur in radio programming, revitalize the CRC as the advisory body, and maximize the use of radio station as a medium to disseminate relevant and correct nutrition information and other developmental programs.

Lingayen, Pangasinan - BNSs are the fontliners in providing basic health and nutrition services in the communities. Once again, the LUPang Ilocos BNS Federation, Inc. successfully conducted its 6th Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) Congress last 16 September 2016 at the Sison Auditorium, Lingayen, Pangasinan. The Congress was hosted by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan and the Pangasinan Provincial BNS Federation in partnership with the National Nutrition Council Regional Office I. Around 1,000 BNSs across the region gathered during the said activity.
This year’s theme – “LUPang Ilocos BNSs: Kaakibat at maasahan sa serbisyong pang-nutrisyon tungo sa malusog na kinabukasan” reassures the strong commitment of BNSs in the region in the delivery of timely, efficient and effective nutrition and related services to improve the nutritional status of families in the barangays.

Baguio City -- The National Nutrition Council conducted a local nutrition action planning workshop for the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1K) Program last October 11-14, 2016 at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City. The activity was attended by the technical core planning group of the program areas in Pangasinan (Alaminos City, Urdaneta City, Munipalities of Bayambang and Umingan) which is composed of City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, City/Municipal Health Officers, City/Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, City/Municipal Agriculture Officer and City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers.
The activity was actively facilitated by NPC Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, NO IV Mr. Reginaldo T. Guillen from the Nutrition Policy and Planning Division of NNC Central Office, Mr. Ednore Freynon Perez, a Senior Economic Development Specialist from NEDA ROI, Ms. Elma Irapta, PNAO of Ilocos Norte and PNC Andreissa Fae S. Ranchez, with the full support of NO I Mary Gene Contic and AA VI Nicholo Lozano.

The Food and Nutrition Research Institute, in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology and the National Nutrition Council in Region 1 recently conducted the Regional Dissemination Forum on the 2015 Updating of the Nutritional Status of Filipino Children and Other Population Groups, at the Oasis Country Resort in San Fernando City, La Union last September 6, 2016 with the theme “Kumusta na ba ang Kalusugang Pang-nutrisyon ni Juan at Juana?”
The forum focused on the overview and rationale of the 2015 Updating Survey of the National Nutrition Survey which is conducted every five years. Other concerns were discussed such as the double burden of malnutrition/anthropometry, the maternal nutritional status and infant and young child feeding, dietary survey, emerging nutrition concerns, and food security.

VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR-- The National Nutrition Council (NNC) joined other local and national government agencies in the Pantawid Pamilya National Family Day 2016 of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) held last Oct. 8, 2016 in Vigan Convention Center with the theme: “Matatag na Pamilya, Maunlad na Bukas.”
Various healthcare information and services from POPCOM, PhilHealth, Provincial Health Office, Philippine Medical Association and Philippine Dental Association were provided to thousands of 4Ps beneficiaries in the region.
The National Nutrition Council as one of the active partners of DSWD delivered the following nutritional assessment services: height and weight taking, BMI Computation, nutrition counseling. More than 50 individuals from different age groups were able to avail of the said services.
