Strengthening the immune system amid the COVID-19 outbreak is necessary to prevent infections and the occurrence of different types of illnesses. Decreased immunity, particularly in children, is linked with poor nutritional status. Good nutrition, along with healthy lifestyle strategies such as getting adequate rest, engaging in regular physical activity, frequent handwashing, and having good personal hygiene, prevents greater susceptibility to diseases.
Parents and other caregivers serve as nutritional gatekeepers and have the responsibility of keeping children healthy and well-nourished. However, it is important to bear in mind that there is no food or supplement that can protect children from getting sick. It is through a well-balanced diet that the children’s immune system can be supported, and in turn, influence their bodies’ capability to fight infections.

We are at war .. yes we are …
The enemy is not the usual armed men with guns and bombs. We are fighting something so small that it is invisible to the naked eye, yet so fierce and dangerous it could kill millions. We are fighting a VIRUS, a novel one, that it took the whole world by surprise. People are caught off guard and the minute enemy has brought every nation, great and small, to its knees. Leaders scampered to contain it, but as of now, the world is still reeling in its ferocity.
While the world boasts of its advance scientific knowledge and technology, COVID-19 shows that the best way to conquer it is with something basic, and that is preventing its transmission.

(Kofi Annan, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Secretary-General of the United Nations between 1997 and 2006)
