Article CNPC National Evaluation12 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – Local Nutrition Program Coordinator (LNPC) of the Year Region X, Ms. Sherill Faith P. Española of Cagayan de Oro City is among the five contenders nationwide for the 2019 Search for LNPC of the Year.

The search, done on 11-12 November 2021 via Zoom application, was facilitated by the National Evaluation Team (NET) led by Team Leader Ms. Racelline Faye D. Calangi (National Nutrition Council), with members Ms. Julia Marie S. Los Baños (NNC) and Ms. Janice P. Feliciano (Department of Health).

The two-day evaluation activity covered the opening program, desk review, interview of City Nutrition Program Coordinator Española, and feedbacking of initial findings by the NET.

Article CNAO National Evaluation11 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Nenita F. Rabe of Cagayan de Oro City was evaluated by the National Evaluation Team (NET) last 4-5 November 2021, as qualifying assessment for the national-level Local Nutrition Action Officer of the Year award.

CNAO Rabe was named by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team as Northern Mindanao’s outstanding NAO for the City/Municipality category. CNAO Rabe vies for the national award together with four other NAOs from different areas in the country.

The two-day evaluation included the conduct of a courtesy call through an opening program, desk review of documents, interview, discussion for learning and action, and feedbacking of initial results.

Infographics Market Matching9 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – As part of the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger & Poverty (EPAHP) initiative, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) -Irrigators Association (IA) conducted the Market Matching Convergence last 3 November 2021 held at Chali Resort and Conference Center, Gusa Cagayan de Oro City.

Attended and participated by six (6) select regional EPAHP partners, namely, Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health Center for Health Development – Northern Mindanao (DOH CHD-NM), National Food Authority (NFA) and National Nutrition Council (NNC) X. Representatives from the IAs were also present during the event.

The limited face-to-face encounter was enabled by NIA's efforts to organize the partners in one accord for a thorough discussion. Ms. Leonila E. Tenestrante, Division Manager for Engineering & Operations of NIA, gave her thoughts as she graciously welcomed the attendees. "This is just the beginning of a long partnership that will benefit not only us but also the farmers, workers, and those affected by hunger and malnutrition through the food commodities that our association can supply," she said in her message.

DCNPCAP 2nd Nutrition Forum

10 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – A two-day nutrition forum entitled “Sama-samang Isulong ang Nutrisyon sa First 1000 Days!” was organized by the District City Nutrition Program Coordinators Association of the Philippines (DCNPCAP), Region X Inc. in coordination with the National Nutrition Council (NNC) X. It was conducted last 28-29 October 2021 via Zoom. A total of 268 participants composed of local nutrition workers and members of the local nutrition committees in Region 10 attended the forum.

The forum aims to promote the First 1000 Days (F1K) strategy to address chronic malnutrition, particularly stunting in pre- and post-pandemic situations.

“The focus for this year’s forum is very timely and relevant as this is our common position statement to reduce malnutrition. Evidence shows that the most strategic period to prevent malnutrition particularly stunting and achieve children’s potential for physical and mental development, is from conception until the child reached his/her second birthday,” said NNC X Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez.

Valencia City NIE Workshop8 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The National Nutrition Council X through Nutrition Officer I Liezel Joy D. Reyes provided assistance to Valencia City as one of the resource persons during the 2-day “Webinar- Workshop on Nutrition Management in Emergencies and Disasters for Local Service Providers” on 4-5 November 2021. A total of 133 participants attended the said webinar-workshop. Participants were composed of Punong Barangays, Barangay Kagawads, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, City Nutrition Program Coordinators and staff from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office and City Health Office.

NO I Liezel Joy D. Reyes discussed the Overview of the eLearning Course on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management.The rest of the modules and sessions were discussed by select Valencia City Nutrition Cluster members and Nutrition Office staff who were trained during the Training on NiE-IM pilot run conducted last 8 September to 21 October 2020.

In totality, the activity aims to activate the Barangay Nutrition Clusters in the 31 barangays of the city and to capacitate the members of the said Clusters on the different phases on NiE-IM. The barangay nutrition committees formulated their Barangay Nutrition Cluster Plan as their workshop output. (NO I Liezel Joy D. Reyes)


 

2021 NCMThe National Children’s Month (NCM) is celebrated in the Philippines annually every November, in pursuant to Republic Act 10661. The celebration seeks to impart to every Filipino the significance of the promotion and the protection of the rights of every child. This year, the 29th National Children’s Month Celebration focuses on the children’s rights in the new normal, with the theme “New Normal na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan”.

The commemoration will cover the vast issues on children’s rights to survival, development, protection, and participation in the new normal setting. The celebration also aims to ensure that no child will be left behind, regardless of the situation.

Since nutrition is a fundamental right of every child, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) shows its full support to the celebration every year, through the conduct and attendance to various activities in line with the celebration.
